An ample report concerning the Bimilipatnam fortification works has been submitted by the Lieutenant Engineer Khun, in order that by raising a straw roof upon an earthen wall, or by the setting of posts, the Company's right and possession might ever be kept alive. Concerning the fortification works and enclosure, the Colombo Lieutenant Engineer Johan Georg Khun has accomplished the commission entrusted to him in the surveying of the buildings and the enclosure at Bimilipatnam and their situation, as well as everything that was further demanded of him pursuant to Your High Nobles' venerated orders in the respected missives of 25 July 1769 and 14 July 1770; having submitted to us an ample report of his findings, supported by his considerations both on the construction, improvement, and repair, etc., of that devaluated fort; the copy of which report, as well as the maps submitted alongside it, both of the fort itself and of the surrounding lands of Bimilipatnam, we take the respectful liberty to offer herewith to Your High Nobles for Your High Nobles' most venerated disposition. Concerning different matters under this main head, we consider ourselves obliged to inform Your High Nobles that 4 of the Company's horses, having become entirely unfit through old age, and thus having been sold at public auction, together yielded no more than Pag: 19: ƒ 354: 50. We have thereby become deprived of the necessary draft horses for equipage, which we attempted to have supplied from the stud farm at Jaffanapatnam, but in vain, as the ministers there expressed their inability to satisfy the requisition made for 3 pairs or 6 draft horses, because of the difficulty in securing two horses of an equal color. As the obtaining of the caliatour wood to satisfy the requisition made for it became increasingly difficult, for reasons mentioned in our respectful letter of 14 October last, we—noticing that no supply will be made by the inhabitants themselves of the region where that wood is gathered, as was done in earlier years—have, in our session of 4 November last, entered into a contract with the Company's merchant here, Tieroemenij Chittij, for the delivery of the aforesaid wood, to be delivered both here and at Jaggernaijkpoeram, at the price recently determined by resolution of 22 December 1770, and this in exchange for all the tin that has lain unmarketable for well over a year at Jaggernaijkpoeram and Bimilipatnam, due to the supply of that mineral by private individuals and at a lower price than that at which the Honorable Company disposed of it. Therefore, it was caused to be transferred hither to the quantity of 44,883½ lb, and has been furnished upon the aforesaid contract at Pag: 36:14:– or ƒ164:12:8 the bhaar of 480 lb, or at a profit of 24 5/16 percent, in order to relieve the Honorable Company thereof. Of the pensioned servants, none is now present here other than the former chief surgeon of this outer city, Fredrik Prins, who expresses his most humble thanks to Your High Nobles for the granted retirement pension, and most humbly prays that the same may favorably be prolonged for another year. The First Sworn Clerk and Secretary of Justice here, Jacques Theodore Pauquer, takes the humble liberty to offer respectfully to Your High Nobles his petition, most humbly insisting therein, for the reasons alleged therein, to be favored with the rank of Junior Merchant. This is further accompanied by a second petition dedicated to Your High Nobles by the chief surgeon of the outer city here, Abraham Penning, humbly requesting therein that, since he has not the least means of subsistence and moreover must suffer loss, the outer city may be directly assigned to him, and that he may simultaneously be permitted to furnish and dispense his own medicines, after the example of the Eastern Governments. And we furthermore offer herewith to Your High Nobles the required deed of surety, executed by the undersigned Governor in his capacity as testamentary executor and administrator of the estate of the late Resident of Lamjong.
