Dutch sailcloth. Broad sailcloth. Karl cloth. Grey hemp cloth. Muscovy cloth. Checked. or heavy rolling cannot well go together. However, in making fore and main masts for ships of 140 to 150 feet, which often are assembled from seven or nine pieces, one might, subject to the approval of Your Honorable Nobility, in order to economize, use half of homeland wood and the other half of horgas or kinegas, which for this service is held to be superior to horgas wood, to be employed; in which case the same can meet the length of 88 and 94 feet. If not of this length, one is compelled to scarf the other or upper piece into it, as was done in the presence of the national squadron under the command of the Honorable Manly Master N: N: van Braam on a Company ship, Sparenrijk, which requires more time to finish in getting the said mast ready. If any fraud occurred here, it must have been committed deliberately by the said Captain, for the officers are beyond suspicion since their declaration corresponds with the delivery note from the Master Sailmaker here, kept at the secretariat, where indeed the main topsail is missing.
