The 26 May In The City of Cochim Anno 1776 concerning gardens and lands broadly to be read here below. Translation of an ola written by the king of aijroer to the Right Honorable Adriaan Moens, Extraordinary Councillor of the Dutch Indies, and Governor and Director of the Coast of Mallabaar, Canara, and Wingurla, received the 26 May Anno 1776. Our predecessors granted some gardens and lands on lease-tenure from the nair aijker awen, and now upon the death of our predecessor, the mentioned aijker awen having been addressed to transfer the olas of those lands, he was not satisfied with that, stating that he desired his advanced money; thus we offered him his money. He replied thereto that he first had to gather his thoughts in order to receive that money. We replied to him that his money lay ready and he could obtain it whenever he desired, provided that he could not cultivate and sow those lands; and while he remained negligent regarding the receipt of those moneys, we gave those lands to another nair and took up a certain sum of money from him. When this nair went to plow those lands, the aforesaid aijker nair placed an attachment on those lands in the name and on behalf of the Company. We at once made this known to the resident of paponettij, who summoned aijker nair and told him that he should go and receive the aforementioned money, and at the same time give reasons why he had attached those lands in the name of the Company. However, the resident subsequently sent men to have those lands plowed over on behalf of aijker nair. We then sent our men and had an attachment placed there on the Company's behalf, but without paying any regard to that, the resident sent men and withdrew those attachments. The resident has seen fit to prefer a nair over us, which grieves us very much; therefore we request Your Right Honor to issue orders that aijker awen receives his money and that those lands are left in our possession. In the village of Eddamottom, the Caimal Tikenertha gave a certain sowing field on lease-tenure to Paijenpallij Elleda, for which said Elleda gave the Cang ola to a certain Willon Pattoe. This ola was redeemed by Paijen Cherij Oelatto Nair and he manages those lands. The estate of the Caimal Tikenertha having fallen to us upon his death, we therefore made known to the tenant that he should come with his proof to receive the money, which he indeed promised, but shortly thereafter he died.
