Copy To the Right Honorable Stern Sir Cornelis Jacob van de Graaf Governor and Director of the Cape of Good Hope and its dependencies, etc., etc. Right Honorable Stern Sir, The undersigned Captains at Sea, having been expressly commissioned by Your Right Honorable Sternness, assisted by the master shipwright here and in the presence of the Equipment Master of this Government, to examine carefully the defects present in the rudder, the main yard, and the gaff of the ship Pollux which has arrived here in the roads, have performed this in accordance with those orders, and in the presence of the Captain commanding that vessel, J. van Stralen, have found that the rudder is broken off transversely between the first and second gudgeon, the main yard decayed two feet from the starboard quarter up to the middle and broken in two places, and the gaff to be broken in pieces, so that consequently the ship Pollux must necessarily be provided with A new rudder A main yard A gaff in order to be able to continue its voyage to the fatherland.
