Honorable, highly esteemed ruling Lord and Honorable Gentlemen, The under-surgeon Maximiliaan Scheijl, Your Honors' very humble servant, respectfully demonstrates how he, the petitioner, on 27 March of this year 1740, having been transferred from the ship Middenrak to the sloop De Valk, was there transferred by the commander then commanding that small vessel, Willem Noseman, in the presence of the chief surgeons Johannes Arnoldus van Cuijlenburg and Guillam Geandron, these following surgeon's tools, namely: 1 piece extirpation saw 2 cautery irons 2 trepanning forceps 1 scissors 1 iron forceps 1 decoction kettle 1 copper pan 1 mortar with its pestle 1 shaving basin 1 incision scissors And whereas all of the same, through long use, except for the three last-mentioned, have entirely become unserviceable, the petitioner therefore requests to benefit from Your Honors' favor to be supplied anew therewith. After the exhibition of which, the decision was made to send those useless instruments back to Batavia, with a humble request to be accommodated in their place with good and capable ones of the same kind, during and in between which time the said under-surgeon shall be exempted from the cost of their consignment. From Persia under date 29 June 1743: Being upon the written request of the junior assistant Pieter Roelands of Sluis in Flanders for an increase of salary, because his term has already expired and he was a person of good promise, his salary was increased to ƒ 24 per month under a new three-year contract. Andries Kroger of Mecklenburg, having arrived in India in the year 1734 on the ship Ipenroode as a soldier at ƒ 9:-, and subsequently improved in the year 1740 to ƒ 11: per month, was now anew, upon his petition and on account of the good testimony of the military officer, increased in salary to 13 guilders per month under a new three-year contract.
