The severe illness with which the Director was bedridden in the autumn of 1757, and which essentially, as Your High Nobilities very well observe, constituted not the least of the reasons that moved him, upon the very first news of his promotion to Extraordinary Councillor, to take the liberty of respectfully requesting Your High Nobilities for his discharge from the administration of this Directorship, has not only, as was already cited in our reverent letter of the 15th of April last not yet ceased, left a worrying remnant that will heed no medicines, but has also caused such a great decline of strength that, having until today still been unable to attain a complete recovery, he has, humanly speaking, little hope left thereof, unless an eventual timely change of climate should cause a change for the better. The accompanying report of the Secunde Drabbe serves, annexed to the authentic copy accompanying this in the margin, answering the remarks of the Right Honourable Gentlemen Majores on the return received in the year 1756 from this Direction, wherein it is irrefutably demonstrated that, contrary to what the Right Honourable maintained, not a single piece of linen more was contracted for, nor sent from here, than the demands and orders dictate, alongside the innocent cause that nevertheless more was received in one year than was demanded for one year, and the necessary provisions we had made long before the receipt thereof in order to prevent such suspicions in the future. Concerning the ordered matter regarding the runaways, the extract from Your High Excellencies' resolution of 13 April 1758 concerning the deserter Govert van Welle and the fugitive citizen Andries Andriesz, we have handed over to the fiscal in order to comply as far as possible with Your High Excellencies' esteemed requisition, but notwithstanding all efforts made, it has not yet been possible to discover where these fugitives are staying. The copies of the edict issued by Your High Excellencies on 2 June of this year against the trade in opium, and the warning of the renewed interdict against the conveyance or dispatch of silk cloths and linens to Batavia, have been properly posted both on land and on the ships. A copy of the submitted accounting of the Master Blacksmith Anthonij van der Steen having been handed to our Master of the Equipage Falck in order to supply the necessary elucidation as to how the matter stands with his exposition or conjecture regarding the grapnels sent in the year 1755 with the ships 'T Huijs te Boede and Middelburg to this Direction, he has in that regard provided such a report as we have the honour to present to Your High Excellencies herewith in copy. Everything we deemed necessary to mention in relation to Your High Excellencies' aforesaid esteemed letters and annexes having been dealt with herewith, we shall now let follow the received extracts from the Missive from the Homeland of 13 October 1757, having special relation to this Direction, with our respectful reply in the margin. Just as for the Director Taillefert nothing can be more agreeable and pleasing than to see that he succeeds to some extent in his endeavour, by assiduous application to that which the post in which he is placed requires of him, to become an object of the attention and confidence of Your Right Honourable, it is also certain, not only that this greatly animates him in the future to neglect nothing that can serve, as far as is at all possible, to meet their expectations, but also that the same must notoriously awaken in other ministers a noble emulation to likewise share in the honour Your Right Honourable are pleased to bestow upon him, to which we, head for head, shall apply ourselves without interruption. The proofs that the Extraordinary Councillor Louis Taillefert has given to us in several respects, and particularly during his short stay in Bengal, of his skill and zealous application in the handling of the Company's affairs, give us a well-founded confidence that His Honour in this post, no less than in his former one, will meet our expectations. Whilst the said Director, upon encountering anything that requires redress and is within his power to redress, will not fail to acquit himself of his duty in that regard. We also remain confident that he will not fail to put this Direction, which in several respects requires quite a lot of redress, on a better footing, and it is out of that consideration that in this reply we will not express ourselves at length about what has passed, but only mention those few matters which we judge cannot entirely be passed over in silence. This is also the sentiment of the present administration, it having seemed previously that one flattered oneself that the manufacturers in the Netherlands, finding an opportunity to sell yearly to the Company a considerable quantity of manufactures, even with a reasonable prospect of increase in the future, would not have failed to seize that opportunity to revive their languishing factories, and thus accommodate the Company at acceptable prices, with other matters that were rather to be wished for than expected. Concerning, therefore, in the first place the project of the retired Director J: de Roth to vend a considerable parcel of woollen manufactures at Bassijn among others, we conform in all respects to that which Your Honours have prescribed to the aforesaid de Roth in that regard, since we are of the opinion with Your Honours that the sale of those manufactures

From Surat, the 12th of December, Anno 1758 to be expected as if on solid foundations, of which experience has demonstrated the opposite, which does not take away that the intention in this was good. But in case no other use may be made of Bassein than to the extent that some trade goods that have no sale elsewhere can be disposed of there, we cannot, be it said in the hope of a favorable interpretation and subject to the correction of wiser judgment, see how the Surat governors could be kept in check, it being after all utterly indifferent to him whether one vents goods in Bassein or elsewhere that have no outlet in Surat, and to our knowledge in the Deccan and other lands bordering that province no goods are in demand, besides manufactured goods, other than those which are also serviceable for trade in Surat, manufactured goods not being an article in which we can trade with profit; especially not in places where the English trade on an equal footing with us, and we consequently also judge that no other use must be made of Bassein than to the extent that some trade goods that have no sale elsewhere can be disposed of there, in order by that means to keep the Surat governors somewhat in check. According to the yield in the spring of 1755 sent to Batavia with the ship Nieuw Nieuwerkerk, on a capital of ƒ128980:14: net was gained ƒ228493:12: or 177¼ per cent on average, but if one counts the spices along with it, on ƒ120334:3: advanced ƒ125564:68, which amounts to 104 5/8 per cent, the entire yield of both totaling ƒ357424:76: or only ƒ42575:14:— less than had been guessed and roughly stated, the Japanese bar copper and sugar having, besides the spices, contributed the most to the profit. We had in the meantime wished to be able to discern from the ministers' dispatches what advantages were actually gained in the sale of the trade goods that were brought to Bassein with the ships Bloemendaal and Marienbosch. For, although in less than six weeks' time four hundred thousand florins worth of those goods may have been sold against ready cash, this nevertheless provides no proof that this sale was made with sufficient profit; which is however what alone matters, and for which we shall therefore await the further accounting. From the Mocha trade papers sent from here to Batavia on the 25th of December 1755 per the ship Marienbosch, it appears that the merchandise traded in Mocha, costing ƒ24293:13:0: at purchase, advanced ƒ56596:14:— or approximately 233 per cent on average, or, excluding the spices, on a small capital of ƒ20791:7:— gained ƒ16884:11:— amounting to 81¼ per cent, and also that on the round trip combined a profit was made of ƒ08868:8:— after deduction of all expenses. With no less longing do we look forward to the report regarding the sale of the merchandise that was sent on the 6th of April 1755 with the ship Bloemendaal from this directorship to Mocha, since according to the ministers' letters of 4 January of the past year, trade in Mocha in general was so bad that the merchants suffered a loss of more than 12 per cent on it, which consequently also caused a bankruptcy of 80000 Spanish dollars, which therefore can give us no favorable expectation at all of that consignment. This is all that the present Director can say in this regard with full certainty, having received in response to his question of how it was possible that already under date 10 May 1754, or five days before the final sale, it was possible to allocate what the accrued profits were, from the second and other council members of that time: That this, as it appeared to him, was done solely by anticipation and calculation because of the prospect that was thought to be had in that respect, but that the short statement drawn up later and inserted in the Surat advices of 25 April 1755 of the advances gained on the cargo of Thoorenvliet had then shown that a considerable mistake had been made, and that the gross profits amounted to no more than a sum of f72247:16:8 and that thus effectively after deduction of all charges only f55793:11:8 was purely gained, as appears from the short statement in our Batavia letter of 25 April 1755 as well as the return of the sold merchandise inserted, to which papers we take the liberty to refer, humbly requesting that Your Right Honorable will favorably pardon those mistakes in the first report, out of consideration that it originated solely from the desire to give prompt knowledge of the turnover of the imported goods, which for a part took several days longer and did not succeed as favorably as was thought. to it are roughly f100000, as Your Honor informs us, agrees well with what the Ministers said in their letters of 11 May 1754 and their marginal reply to the extract of our letter of 8 October 1753, but that estimate of profits differs too much from the yield of that cargo inserted in the Ministers' letter of 25 April Ao 1755, as according to that yield the net profits did not amount to more than f55793:11:8, which we did not want to leave unnoticed, because from it can best be gathered how profitable the trade to Cochin China was for the Company, and how much the stated profits decrease when viewed closely. 15. From Souratta, 12 December Ao 1758 Yet what is reported in the letter of 4 January 1755 concerning the lying and melting of the sugar in the warehouses, notwithstanding that sweet product was already declared sold by letters of 11 May of the preceding year, will be easily understood when one considers that the brokers of the purchased lot do not collect and pay at once more than they need for that time, and the rest meanwhile remains lying for the Company's account; on which account it was also stipulated at a further sale that they should always receive a proportionate part of the Cochin Chinese sugar together with and alongside that of the latest import, in order thus to prevent the damage the Company would have suffered by the longer lying of the first-mentioned lot if the brokers had been allowed to act arbitrarily with it, since, due to the bad condition of the Cochin Chinese canassers, as appears from the resolution of 10 May 1734, they would always have collected the Javanese first for dispatch outward, and left the other lying to be sold solely within Souratta. Furthermore, we have not been able to comprehend how the Ministers in their aforementioned letters of 11 May 1754 could report that they had sold the sugar brought forward by the mentioned vessel in its entirety, and that the Company thereby had profited f103166:9:— on the whole cargo of the aforementioned vessel, whereas in their letter of 4 January 1755 they say that the sugar, both powder and candy, brought by the ship Thoornvliet, at that time still partly lay melting in the warehouses, and that, to clear the warehouses thereof, they had stipulated at the latest sale to always deliver a part of that sweet product together with that of the new import. We would not dare to vouch that the necessary license for the construction of a new lodge with sufficient warehouses, perimeter wall, and so forth, would be obtainable for one and a half tons of gold, as the Regents currently show themselves more disinclined than ever to lend an ear to any proposals in that regard out of fear of the English. Moreover, they were permitted by the said Governors to construct a new lodge for the sum of 100,000 Rupees, but concerning which latter item they would await your Honours' orders; meanwhile, according to their general letter of 25 April 1755, they had contracted out the completion of that revetment and the erection of the two stone houses for Rupees 83,000, so that according to that account, that first work alone would now again come to cost 56,000 Rupees for obtaining the further permission and 150,000 ditto for the work itself, and thus in total 200,000 Rupees; there remaining then still excluded therefrom the construction of a new lodge, for which obtaining the permission alone would come to stand at 100,000 Rupees. What the truth of this matter actually is, and to what extent that repeatedly undertaken and, to us, entirely disagreeable work has finally been brought, we cannot determine with any certainty, since the successive advices from the ministers, according to our thoughts, do not accord with what your Honours have reported to us concerning this in your General Missive, regarding which we shall consequently also await further report, under a serious recommendation to properly heed the Company's interest in this matter. The reasons for the re-establishment of the factory at Ahmedabad were, at our session of the 4th of December 1753, stated by the then Director, the gentleman later Extraordinary Councillor of India Johannes Pecock (deceased), solely as being momentous without laying them open before the Council, and upon those secret reasons the necessity of its restoration was then built. But the factory at Broach was not abandoned and re-established; rather, as is evident from the Surat Resolution of the 19th of October 1754, it was continued, as has already been demonstrated in letters from this ministry to the well-mentioned your Honours of the 2nd of March 1756, wherein at the same time it can be seen in detail what actually were the motives for the restoration of Ahmedabad, as well as those for the appointment of a new Broach factor or chief. That your Honours have demanded an accounting from the ministers as to why they re-established the factories of Ahmedabad and Broach without your Honours' special permission, we completely approve, as we also do the order given by your Honours to withdraw again from Ketsmandui, and no less your Honours' decision on the propositions concerning Cambay, Sind, and Denger. From Souratta the 12 December Ao 1758. expense of the Malabar Commandment at Cochin to notify the ministers of the prices obtained for the sugar and the Japan bar copper, of which also repeatedly large quantities have been brought by the English from there to here and to this vicinity, and positively to order the Cochin ministry on no account to sell those wares cheaper. For since the determination of the price of the sugar at f18 per 100 lb and prior to this revocation, the market in Souratta has fallen so noticeably that on Malabar, without prejudice to the Company, they could have contented themselves with a considerably lower price. The only reason sugar has been sold there was that the same could be transferred from there to Souratta with profit, but which was notoriously a practice tending to the prejudice of the Company's trade in the last-mentioned direction, and for that reason could not be considered a real profit, but on the contrary must be regarded as a substantial loss. And insofar as the ministers argue against that increased price of sugar that by trading that product they were simultaneously relieved of less desirable merchandise and immediately received a handsome sum of money in hand, such are indeed no reasons that can in any way be considered acceptable, and even less should serve as a rule of direction. Because on the one hand no undesirable merchandise ought to be sent thither, and on the other hand it would be no prudent management at all to sell the goods here at a loss, or at least with less profit than can be obtained upon them elsewhere, in order to get cash in hand by that means. Profits must therefore not be sought along those paths, but if the sales of sugar here might be diminished by these increased purchase prices, the ministers must regulate themselves accordingly in formulating their demands, and Your Right Honourables in fulfilling the same. After this had been drafted thus far, or on the 6th of the current month, the ship Amerongen arrived at this roadstead, with which we had the honour to receive the letter that Your Right Honourables were pleased to direct to us on the 6 September last to accompany that vessel, with the annexes belonging thereto. From Surat, 12 December anno 1758. initiating a negotiation there on certain conditions to induce them to recall Mia Atsjent and to maintain him to the utmost of their power in the quiet possession of the government against whomever it might be, and especially also against the Castle Governor Siedie Havis Ametchan, if the latter should undertake anything against him. This envoy was so fortunate in this negotiation of his that an agreement was reached upon certain conditions, of which very different accounts are given, but among which the principal one was that His Highness should henceforth participate in the city revenues for one half instead of one third. Meanwhile, Mia Aatsjent approached Ponneger, about four days' journey from this city; he found himself in the utmost embarrassment for cash to pay his troops, and was thereby moved to have a prominent merchant robbed on the road of gold and pearls to the value of about 36000 Rupees, even though this was a man who stood under the protection of his English friends and intended to travel to the princely residence of Poena Tjackela. This was taken very ill by them as well as by Prince Ballagie Ballarauw, so that they did not fail to summon him so earnestly to make immediate restitution that, for fear of utterly spoiling the game, he was forced to resolve upon it, notwithstanding that this brought him into great discredit with the inhabitants of Surat, who could promise themselves nothing good from a man who, not content with siding with the Marhettas, even before he was in the city made a beginning of despoiling the merchants, so that he was forced to make a halt for some time at the aforementioned Sonneger to see what turn affairs would take, seemingly unable to imagine that the Marhettas were in earnest about withdrawing their support from him and siding with his opponent. However, he was convinced of this in the month of 9ber, as letter upon letter was sent to him on behalf of the prince ordering him for the present to cease his enterprise and begin the march back to Bassijn, which he, growing desperate, refused to obey, since he had in the meantime received intelligence that the discord which had long existed between Ali Nawaaschan and the Castle Governor had increased not a little through the former's negotiations with the Marhettas at a time when they were in open war with his master, the Ragapoer prince. From this he conceived hopes of soon being able to fish in troubled waters, in which he also succeeded; for the Castle Governor making daily preparations for war, Ali Nawaaschan was forced to look to his own safety by doing the same, while in the meantime Mia Atsjent, having received assistance in money, approached close to the city with his force. This induced Ali Nawaaschan to make proposals of accommodation to Siedie Ametchan, who showed himself not averse to them, merely to amuse him and gain time, which perhaps in the beginning was the aim of both; but the city Governor having sent out some troops to dislodge Mia Atsjent, these, for want of a general commanding them in chief, were immediately thrown into disorder and put to flight, and he became serious about coming to terms with the Castle Governor, since in these critical circumstances he could neither march out himself nor strip himself of his best officers. Peace was then agreed upon between the two of them on reasonable conditions, but Siedie Ametchan deferred the ratification and signing from day to day, and at long last refused it altogether, pretending that his deputies had exceeded their authority, yet nevertheless feigned shortly thereafter to lend an ear again to proposals of peace. Meanwhile, he made an agreement with Mia Aatsjent to lend each other a helping hand in order to expel their common enemy, to which end the latter surprised the city of Ramdeer or Old Surat with the help of some traitors who opened one of the gates to his people. From there, being situated on the opposite side in view of the Castle, he had the opportunity to propose exchanging a son of his for a brother of the Castle Governor to serve as mutual hostages, without which they, knowing one another, dared not trust the contract they had entered into. A few days later, namely in the night between the 3rd and 4th of this month, the Castle Governor had the other sons of Mia Atsjent and the best of his troops fetched by night with his vessels, and in the morning at daybreak made a beginning of the war by having the Castle cannonade the Derbhaar or the Government House and a battery which Alij Navaaschan had caused to be erected inside the artillery warehouse to cover the same, while in the meantime the troops of the

From Souratta, 12 December 1758. isjent was repulsed with great loss. compelled to capitulate. clears the Herbaer which by the people of the the Siedie and Mia Alsjent marched out to attack those whom Ali Nawaaschan had placed at the approaches, imagining that they, consisting partly of untrained men, would soon take flight and leave their master in the lurch; however, among the bands of the sidijen, they found the contrary, being courageously repulsed and forced to retreat with great loss (for a Moorish action), as well as to secure themselves by throwing up batteries in various places of the city, and among them some in the streets that emerged near the Company's lodge, against the attack of their triumphant enemies, without the conqueror nevertheless being able to maintain himself in his seat thereby, since his enemies knew how to cut off all his supplies of provisions, and thereby to compel him to capitulate, because his dispenser, a certain Wellie Ulla, who, along with many of the officials, had defected to the enemy the night before, and of whom Ali Nawaaschan had demanded the provision of a sufficient supply of foodstuffs for several months, had acquitted himself of that duty in such a manner that scarcely good edible goods for three days were found on him for five thousand souls. Fortunately, we had made so much haste with the shipment of the return goods that were in readiness for Tulpenburg, that the Company's rent, which was partly shot to pieces by cannon, had been emptied the evening before, and in the inner lathij or the warehouse inside the city, in which there was also nothing but some cases with porcelain, which for lack of workmen could not be transferred elsewhere; it has also, so far as is known to us up to now, suffered little harm, only the roof being more or less damaged, but by these troubles trade has been considerably retarded, and especially the procurement of linen, which has come to a total standstill, without there being any remedy against it other than patience. The rulers of the city and the Castle Governor sent word to the first undersigned letting him know that he was a thief with whom they had some outstanding matters, and that he, without the Director's knowledge, had committed many wicked deeds for which he would now have to answer, as great complaints would undoubtedly come in against him from many sides. To this the Director replied that, as broker of the Company, he had never had orders to meddle with anything other than its affairs; that we would always gladly see that our broker was kept outside of all affairs of government, and had no access in private to the Darbar; that he had taken him in partly to keep a better eye on his conduct, and partly, or rather principally, because he had to account to the Company for over three hundred thousand rupees, although the debit of the first broker Roederam Ruidas and him together, of which we cannot state the exact amount in the present delicate circumstances, does not amount to nearly so much; and regarding the settlement of that debt, if he does not fall into the hands of the Moors, and even according to the statement of the mentioned Roederam and his son Gouinram, there is no difficulty even in that unexpected case. But since one was informed from more than one side that the Castle Governor, if he had his way, was content with nothing less than his total ruin, and one could not cast those rumors to the wind, especially since he raised difficulties regarding the granting of a secured writing stating that no harm would come directly or indirectly to that servant and his family, although he had offered to present the same, for his reassurance, on behalf of himself and Meer Moeiud dienchan in the presence of the Director. As he raised difficulties, he was summoned to the Lodge and placed under military arrest there that very same day, and thus secured as best as possible against all attacks on his person. From this, one could not have withdrawn one's hand without prejudice to the Company's interests and considerable injury to the honor of the Nation, even if he had no business with the Company; the more so since one has learned not only from him, but also from good authority, that he is provided with a valid receipt or proof of settlement with the Castle Governor, granted by the same about three months ago under his seal, and he undertook, not without great appearance of truth, to prove that he is considerably out of pocket even for the rulers. But seeing that, notwithstanding all preparations made for an alert defense, as far as the situation and condition of the lodge and the supply of necessities for that purpose therein permitted, together with the extreme difficulty of getting anything inside that could serve that purpose even in peaceful times, we are by no means able to protect the mentioned Manchergie for long by force of arms, and cannot, without blame, put all the Company's effects in Souratta at risk for his sake, and it would be utterly shameful to surrender him as an actual servant of the Company. Thus, upon his own representations and proposal made in that regard, we approved on the 8th of this month to let him look for a safe haven, provided his two brothers, who have nothing to settle with the rulers, remain in arrest. And leaving his brothers under arrest, which took effect that same night with the necessary precautions so that it would not immediately become known; without the rulers showing any sign of suspecting his evasion, nor can we as yet say where he is. However, it cannot possibly remain hidden for long, and therefore, as one fears disputes, it could very well happen that we get into a dispute with the rulers, or rather the Castle Governor, although they still keep quiet for now, perhaps reassuring themselves that they will be able to force us by means of violence to surrender the detainee. The day after his flight, they merely let the Director know that the Parsees, or Persian heathens born in Souratta, as Manchergie is, were a cunning and intriguing people, and one therefore had to keep a sharp watch and take care that he did not escape. To which the messenger was merely replied that it went without saying that we would not let go of the hold we had in our hands to help the Company get its due. In which answer one will persist in substance until it is known that he is out of danger, or the rulers show that his escape is known to them, whereupon one will firmly declare that it is true he is no longer in the lodge, but that he did not escape, but was set at liberty by us upon his representation that, in order to pay the Company's money, he necessarily had to collect what he had outstanding, which he could not possibly do as long as he remained under arrest, and that for our security he had left two of his brothers under arrest in his stead. Souratta, 12 December 1758 From which the blockade of the lodge could easily follow. and to adopt such ways and means for that purpose as we deem serviceable and justifiable to our superiors; that when the Castle Governor informed us to keep the cage securely closed so that the bird might not escape us, that decision had already been taken and executed, besides the fact that we cannot make our lodge into a prison for servants who, although owing money to the Company, have done nothing wrong toward it; and that we trust His Honour, maturely considering what he would have done himself in a similar case if he had been in the Director's place, will not trouble us any further about that matter, with which, however, we dare not flatter ourselves positively. But the worst that is to be feared from it is that His Honour will have the lodge occupied and cut off the supply of provisions, of which our stock is not large, for a few days, to see whether he can thereby compel us to bring Manchergie out from his hiding place, which is unknown to us, in order to satisfy his revenge and greed on him and his property, although it is not very likely that he will go to that extremity at a time and under circumstances in which it would be by no means prudent to bring new enemies upon his neck. The affairs of Denda Rajapour continually produce much grief and annoyance for us; for although, as appears from our Resolution of the 1st of July last, upon the repeated requests of the prince Ballagie Ballarauw to send him a person of quality who was well regarded by His Highness in order to confer about the matters, we dispatched the Junior Merchant Kroonenbergh as envoy to the Court of Poena with a gift to the value of ƒ3114:11:8:— prime cost and ƒ5726:9 selling value, His Highness has in the meantime also caused the Rajapour commissioner Sanderus to be sent up to the Court by his General Ramagie Madeeuw, and to this day one sees no end to the former's negotiation, which in the beginning of October was on the verge of a happy conclusion through payment of what had been consumed for the service of the prince, together with the issuing of the necessary orders for the restitution of all that was still in existence at Chajapoer and Thanna, when everything was overturned by the fatal news that the warehouse in which the Marhettas had stored the Company's goods at Thanna had caught fire, whereby all the spices were burned and great damage was done to the other goods both by the flames and by the extinguishing efforts, without it being possible to ascertain how that accident arose, as appears from the letter of the commissioner Van der Sleyden dated 6 October last, which, due to the insecurity of the roads for the couriers owing to the depredations of the Cooly robbers, has not yet been followed by any further report concerning what was burned and spoiled. The aforementioned Kronenbergh indeed immediately insisted on compensation in money for what was burned, as well as for what was robbed and consumed, but with little hope of success; and now no news has been received from him for so long that one would have reason to be anxious, were it not that some English runners between Bombay and these places had gone missing, which serves as proof that the roads are unsafe and that it must apparently be attributed to a similar cause. The haste we must make to dispatch this vessel before unrest arises that might prevent us from doing so allows us just as little on this occasion to enter into a detailed account of all the measures taken by us and hitherto crowned by God's blessing for the safeguarding of the Company's effects and servants, nor of the orders and instructions given to the envoy Kronenbergh both by instruction and otherwise, regarding which we provisionally refer with respect to the same and to the exchanged letters and our Resolutions as far as these latter can be got ready, as well as to our Daily Register under the 21st, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th of September concerning the severe flood that preceded the war, the sad consequences it entailed, and the damage the Company suffered thereby, regarding which latter we shall, however, report more fully on a subsequent occasion; while in the meantime we have the honour to present herewith to Your High Honours an amended table of the coins, measures, and weights circulating and in use around here, since we discovered that some errors had crept into the first one through the obscure and confused statements of the factors of the subordinate offices.
