However, because it was not possible earlier than that day to dispose of the findings on the discharged cargo, this is the reason why this vessel departs for Ceylon only today, with rupees 100000 in cash for that government and 24 packs of various textiles pro patria, which we trust will nevertheless arrive there before the dispatch of the return ships. If the extraordinary rains had not prevented the transport of some packs overland from Cambay and Brodera hither, we would now have had the pleasure of completely fulfilling the requisition for patria for the year 1766 with good quality goods, but due to that unforeseen accident, 28 packs of the 499 packs comprising the entire requisition have remained behind, as is noted more fully in the attached formal answered requisition, to which we take the liberty for the rest to refer in this matter. Regarding the supply of necessities to this vessel, the principal points having already been set down in our aforementioned last letter and the extract from our resolution of the 9th of December attached thereto, of which a copy also accompanies this, we have the honor concerning this only further to report that since then we have been obliged, as per the minute resolution of the 5th current, to have this ship supplied with an additional 3 lasts of rice in place of a similar quantity which was found spoiled here in the roads during the inspection of the rice lockers, and of which the largest part, being wholly unusable and foul-smelling, had already been thrown overboard, and the other used for the livestock, as shown by a declaration submitted to our meeting of the same date, attached hereto in original, granted by the officers assigned to that vessel, which, however, could only be sworn to by two of the deponents, as time was too short to have the others come ashore from the ship for that purpose as well.

Disposing at the aforementioned session regarding the findings on the discharged cargo of Kievitsheuvel, we have resolved: 1. concerning the spices to note, That on a well-conditioned bale of cinnamon a gross underweight was discovered of 3 lb. Yet that the cloves and nutmegs weighed here only —½ per cent less than at Batavia.
