Friday the 28th of October 1768: Honorable, Most Worshipful, and Ruling Lord! The undersigned members of the Honorable Political Council, having been commissioned by Your Honor to attend in public this afternoon at 3 o'clock, following the announcement made from the pulpit on the 9th of this month and the preceding tolling of the bell, in the presence of the Reverend Church Council in the Lord's Church here, to witness the deacons of this town properly render proof, account, and settlement of both the receipts and the expenditures of the poor funds under their administration during the recently passed year 1767: have, in compliance with that honored order, properly seen the same done by them, as just mentioned. And after confronting the closing balance as of the last of December Anno 1766 against the opening balance of the first of January Anno 1767, found under both those dates an agreeing balance, namely: remaining in the custody and under the accountability of the cashier Adriaan Poolvliet, a sum of . . Rd:s 428½ and with the Honorable Company, on deposit at 4½ percent interest per annum - Rd:s 10000:— or in total Rd:s 10428½. Subsequently, we confronted the cashier's 12 monthly accounts of Anno 1767 against the warrants of receipts and expenditures of Anno 1767 from the Deaconry Bookkeeper, and the opening and closing balance of the balance sheet again against the cashier's account; item, the amount held with the Honorable Company against the closing balance of the books of Anno 1765 and the opening balance of Anno 1766, and found them to agree therewith. However, the debit and credit of Anno 1767 not yet being entered into the books, we were not able to confront that against the cashier's accounts from which the balance sheet of Anno 1767 was drawn. Nevertheless, the aforementioned guardians of the poor have, as far as has appeared to us, faithfully and properly managed the aforesaid poor funds in the year 1767. The total revenues, consisting of interest and lease moneys, one extraordinary and the ordinary collection, table charity boxes, and pall money, one third toll of the bridge of Callewettij, grave and various other ecclesiastical dues, etc., amount in 12 months, or since the first of January until the last of December Anno 1767, to - - Rd:s 1654½: and The general expenses, consisting of the maintenance of 15 resident orphans and 12 outdoor poor, monthly wages paid to 8 persons, and ordinary expenses, against that, in the said period of 12 months, amount to . . Rd:s 1299 1/8. Consequently, the revenues in the year 1767 surpass the expenses by a sum of Rd:s 355 5/8. Remaining under the last of December Anno 1766 as the balance with the Honorable Company, as before, on deposit at interest . . . . .
