We have written to Ezechiel Rabbij to send the vessels here, so the dispatch of that pepper shall take place as soon as possible. Being in need of 150 pieces of flintlocks for the account of the King, inquiries have been made for the same through Ezechiel Rabbij, therefore we request Your Right Honourable to let these firearms reach His Highness through the agency of Ezechiel Rabbij for the old price; the cost thereof Ezechiel Rabbij shall pay to Your Right Honourable, but the firearms must be with bayonets. Translation of the ola written by the King of Colastrij to the Right Honourable Governor and Director Christiaan Lodewijk Senff, received the 4th of April 1769: It will not be unknown to Your Right Honourable the present state of the Collastrij Realm; formerly when the Canarese intended to destroy the said realm, our brother went to take refuge with the Dutch Company, by whose help and assistance the Canarese were so driven away that they were never in a position to undertake anything again, and after the death of our brother we have 4 - 137 Year 1769 The 4th of April In the city of Cochim we have not failed to maintain friendship with the Honourable Company just as our brother had done, but in the course of time matters have taken such a turn that the entire realm has become destroyed with the arrival of Ader alichan and we were forced to take flight. We have sent the copy of Your Right Honourable's ola along with our letters to the King of Trevancoor, whereupon we have obtained such an answer from His Trevancoor Highness as the Paliath Achan will show to Your Right Honourable, appearing therefrom that the King of Trevancoor will take care 139 Year 1769 The 6th of April In the city of Cochim take care that all the collected pepper shall be delivered to the Honourable Company. The 6th of April In the city of Cochim wish would not happen either. We have pawned some gold items with the former Chief of Cannanoor, Cronenburg, which he left at Cochim upon his departure for Batavia, having had no opportunity to send them to us. Therefore we request Your Right Honourable to receive those pawns and to sequester them under Your Right Honourable until we provide satisfaction of those debts in such agreed-upon goods as one would be willing to accept. I recently wrote an ola to you concerning the delivery of the pepper, and now I must inform you that at Porca and Calicoijlan a quantity of over 800 Candijlen of pepper has been delivered, and the shortfall will be brought in within this period of 4 days. The 6th of April In the city of Cochim Anno 1769 On Thursday morning, His Right Honourable received an ola from the Travancore Ragiadoor Coemara poela; the translation appears below. Translation of an ola written by the Travancore Ragia door Coemara poela to the Right Honourable Lord Governor and Director Christiaan Lodewijk Senff, received the 13th of April 1769: The ola written to my master containing the request to procure 1000 Candijlen of pepper for the cargo of the recently arrived ship having been delivered to His Highness, I have received orders to bring in that pepper as speedily as possible, just as I have procured that number of 1000 Candijlen of pepper at the residencies of Calicoijlan and Porca. The pepper passes that His Highness was accustomed to receive annually from the Honourable Company are provided to the native merchants, who sail with them across the Strait of Pamben to Naoer and Nagapatanam and sell the pepper there. In accordance with that custom, His Highness has given 7 pieces of the 10 recently received passes to the merchants, who readied the quantity of pepper mentioned therein; and wishing to pursue their journey toward the Pambes, they received reports that the Honourable Company was at war with the Prince of Jeuver, and therefore those vessels would not be permitted to pass through the Strait of the Pambes. For that reason, the merchants have come to our master with their grievances, requesting that through the favourable letters of recommendation from Your Right Honourable to the officials of Tutucorijn, those vessels be allowed to pass freely and unhindered through the Pambes, as those vessels cannot pursue their journey through the Gulf of Mannar without great danger. Anno 1769. 916 The 15th of April In the city of Cochim sent to us, and caused us to be so urged, that we, partly on account of our youth and partly out of consideration for the close friendship existing between our ancestors and the Honorable Company, gave our consent to that collection, just and in the same manner as was practiced in the lands of Paijencherij Naijro, but the collection of the tithes is currently taken from the crops standing in the field, wherefore the King of Aijroer is greatly embittered against us, as well as all our subjects who possess landed property in the Conquest, about which, making our grievances known to the successive Honorable Commanders, no heed has been paid to it until now, other than that one was repeatedly appeased with fair promises, until it was thought fit to introduce the tithes on the gardens as well; our ancestors have always placed their trust in the Honorable Company, therefore there was no reason to deal with us in such a manner, and since we have understood that Your Right Honorable has arrived on the Malabar Coast to redress all wrongful matters, we therefore take our refuge in Your Right Honorable, requesting to permit us to meet with Your Right Honorable still in this current month.
