In my latest ola, I said that I judged it best to leave the two previous olas unanswered because my esteem for Your Highness had not yet diminished so much that I would wish to declare outright that Your Highness resorts to obvious untruths. Upon this, Your Highness is pleased to say the following: in our two previous olas are mentioned the protection which the Honourable Company granted to our kingdom, and what we had enjoyed up to the present date, with its proofs, witnesses, and possession, all of which Your Right Honourable having understood, it pleased you to write to us that you judged it best not to answer it. Consequently, quite another matter was spoken of here than what I indicated, and Your Highness at the same time accuses me of 267 The 17th August In the city of Cochim Anno 1770 a great injustice, as if I would pay no heed to the submitted proofs of Your Highness's right and possession. However, Your Highness please do not think that the olas have been torn up; no, not at all, I even keep them under my own custody. I shall show them to the whole world to judge whether any proofs of Your Highness's right are to be found therein, and thus everyone will see that, like the two previous olas, this third one also contains obvious untruths. It is true, Your Highness had said that he would produce his proofs, and I have also more than once requested that you do so; even at our latest conference the final agreement was that Your Highness would look up his proofs and show them to me, but until today such has nevertheless not happened. The straight path was surely the best, and for as much as I understand the matter up to now, Your Highness can gain nothing with all these devious ways other than giving greater weight to my demand for the Company's right, and on the contrary harming his own interest. Furthermore, I have already declared orally at the last conference, and in writing in my latest ola, that our present dispute was not a matter that could be settled by commissioners, and I still adhere to this opinion. But since Your Highness repeatedly indicates a preference to enter into negotiation with my council members rather than with me, I very kindly request you, in reply to this, merely to let me know when it suits Your Highness, whereupon I will send not merely commissioners, but if necessary the entire council, so that Your Highness can lay open all his grievances against me before them.
