Whereupon the aforementioned letter having been read, it was found that all the points mentioned in the said general rescript are properly answered, after which the letter was signed and it was resolved to dispatch the aforementioned letter today along with the trade and pay records, and to grant the ship officers their dispatch. After this, the Governor presented two reports received from specially appointed commissioners (the one dated the 4th of June and the other the 5th of December of the past year), who, pursuant to resolutions passed at this table on the dates of 28th October 1771, 3rd February, and 13th August 1772, have inspected all the cannons and carriages in use, as well as the gates, railings, and doors of the city bastions, as well as the cargo boats and other vessels, together with the bridge of Callewettij, from which it appears that everything, both by the Captain Lieutenant of Artillery and by the Equippage Overseer, each as far as it concerns them, was properly tarred in the months of May and December of the past year, and that the cannons have been greased inside with oil, and on the outside with tar and fish oil, concerning which it was understood to keep this record. The Governor further made known how, in fulfillment of certain orders given to him, he has finally obtained a good opportunity to send a commission in a proper manner to the Nabob Aider Alichan; that he has appointed to this commission the fellow member of this assembly, the Warehouse Master Saffin, together with the Resident of Chettua, De Riberto; as also, that the first mentioned has requested of him, the Governor, that the warehouse, during his absence, might be administered for the account and at the risk of him, Saffin, by the fellow member of this assembly, the Junior Merchant Vernede, together with the Shahbandar, or as he is called here, the beach watchman Coenraadsz; inquiring whether the members could conform to that arrangement regarding the warehouse; and whereas the repeatedly mentioned Saffin declared that he dared safely rely on the aforementioned Vernede and Coenraadsz, and to take their conduct for his account, the members conformed to that arrangement.
