For carrying up and storing the equipment and ammunition goods, material necessities, drinks, and provisions brought from the headquarters, 180 3/8 rix-dollars less was paid this year than in the prior year, and this was even reduced by 279 1/24 rix-dollars on account of the costs incurred in the previous financial year for making desks and everyday armozine flags, likewise the gilding of ceremonial chobdar sticks; and had one not been in absolute necessity to replace a new flag rigging, this account would have been reduced somewhat more. Extraordinary Expenses -- The lower amount spent on ballast for scattering on the Honorable Company's shipyard during the bad monsoon and the non-purchase of rupture trusses reduced this by 87 39/48 rix-dollars, and had not 179 rix-dollars been spent on searching for the ship Demerary dispatched to this directorate, this account would have been burdened with ƒ 275:13:— less than in the previous financial year. The urgent necessity to repair the small bastion or bulwark on the north side of the Honorable Company's shipyard, and to build a small wall of stone and lime instead of a mat-covered bamboo partition for a galley in the dwelling house of the equipment overseer, was most clearly demonstrated by resolution of the 15th and 25th of February of this year, and the cost of the executed repair and masonry of the said wall, approved in the Political Council on the 11th of May last at a total of ƒ 2127:—:—, has increased this by that much. This year, ƒ 173:8:– more was paid from the Honorable Company's treasury than in the previous financial year for a larger number of Company servants defrayed in the hospital; however, on the other hand, ƒ 13:4:— less was paid for a moonshine wage to a cook, a gatekeeper, and a sweeper; also, ƒ 160:3:8 less was validated for medications and some goods supplied from the Honorable Company's stores than in the most recent preceding financial year, to which is added ƒ 88:8:8 credited in favor of this on account of more debited half-wages of the defrayed persons, and thereby this decrease was caused.
