were shown, to wit For the benefit of the boat De Jonge Thomas charged from Jassanap: tools there - - ditto costs During the church and school visitation conducted at Tutukorijn by the Minister Philipsz during the past year, 147 proselytes among the heathen were baptized at Mannapaar, among which number are both the elderly and children — Of these, 36 couples were married — This congregation is instructed there in the truths of our Religion by the Malabar schoolmaster Frans Fernando. How greatly we render all praise to the Lord alone on this account and beseech Him that He may more and more enlighten this people with His Spirit and bring them all out of darkness into His marvelous Light, so we also dare to flatter ourselves that through the blessing of the Almighty and through the salutary care of the worthy chief, the gentleman Mekern, many more seem destined to be brought to us before long, all the more so since the Minister Cadenske, who is about to depart for Tutukorijn, is seeking to master the Malabar language, who thus, if the Lord is pleased to join His blessing therewith, could do much good at Mannapaar. In the Leper House, the covenant seal of the Holy Communion is administered annually by the aforementioned Ministers. The lesser church and school services in Dutch are properly observed by the persons appointed thereto, and each acquits himself well in his service: Concerning the schools of the Colombo environs, these were visited during the previous year by the Ministers Wesselius and Meijer — The number of native Christians, to which the elderly, adults, and children belong, amounts to 98,025 souls, among whom are 2,510 who are members, to whom the Holy Supper is also administered during the visitation of the schools. The native catechists are diligently attending to their duties, and each also frequently visits the schools in his district to their great benefit, and submits proper reports thereof. Of the Commanderies of Jaffanapatnam and Gale we can report nothing other than that at Jaffanapatnam the word of God is proclaimed in Dutch by the Rev. C. F. Schröter and in Malabar by the Minister M. Morgappa. At Gale, God's word is proclaimed by the Ministers C. Capelle and A. E. van den Broek, and A. A. Engelbregt, Candidate.
