Volume Archive 4538. Passed in the Council of Policy in the Castle of Good Hope: Copy of Resolutions, from 23 July to the last of December 93. Examined, N: V. Winkel E. L. The ship Demmerary, which departed from Batavia, having been hailed in a poor condition by the captain of the American vessel The Entreprise, and not having arrived here to date, the Right Honourable Commissioners-General have given their consideration to this matter. folio 1. And thereof gave notice to the Council by dispatch of the 21st of this month, with orders to have the packet boat De Snoa prepared in order to go search for that ship. Marginalia to the Resolutions held in the Honourable Respectable Council of Policy at the Cape of Good Hope, from 23 July to the last of December of the year 1793. Provided that 23 July. Provided that the commanding officer of that vessel is furnished with the necessary Instructions, and the vessel itself is provided with the necessary artillery. After the said dispatch was read, it was communicated by the Honourable Officer in Charge that the necessary orders for putting the said packet boat in order had already been issued by His Honour; and that His Honour had also already received information that the said vessel will be ready on the 26th of this month to undertake the voyage. The Honourable Officer in Charge having been politely thanked for this prompt exactitude of affairs, it was subsequently unanimously resolved to carry into effect the aforesaid orders of Their High Honours with the greatest speed. 23 July. Reading of a second dispatch written by Their High Honours to this government under date of the 20th of this month. What has appeared therefrom to this Council. And decision to issue an extract of this to the Trade Office in order to govern itself accordingly. It having also appeared from the aforesaid dispatch the appointment of the Resident of the Bay, namely the Honourable Christoffel Brand, as an effective Member of this Council, His Honour shall be notified hereof by express messenger, and at the same time be heartily congratulated on this appointment on behalf of this government. The Secretary of this Council, Egbertus Bergh, having also been appointed by the same as Cashier and advisory Member of this Council, His Honour, after having taken the oath standing for this purpose, was likewise heartily congratulated on this appointment by the Honourable Officer in Charge and all the Honourable Members of this Council. Which acknowledgment His Honour made on this occasion. Subsequently, according to the tenor of the repeatedly mentioned revered letter, the First Sworn Clerk, George Fredrik Goetz, having been appointed thereto by Their High Honours, was placed in his stead. The said Goetz having taken the oath for this post standing, and having been congratulated on this his appointment by the Honourable Officer in Charge and all the Honourable Members of the Council, the said acknowledgment was made by the said Secretary Goetz. The Right Honourable Commissioners-General, having further come to order by the aforesaid dispatch that a capable subject be nominated for the post of First Sworn Clerk, the sworn clerk Rijnier Beck shall be favourably nominated for this purpose. As well as, in his place in turn, the Bookkeeper Egbertus Lodewyk Bletterman. The said Mr. De Wet having been politely thanked for this token of zeal and industriousness, it was subsequently resolved to convert the aforesaid representation into a resolution of this Board. Representation produced by Mr. De Wet as Bookkeeper of the General Public Revenues. While the necessary commission shall be decreed by the Honourable Officer in Charge to cause the administration of the store to be transferred to the head and examiner of salaries Matthiessen. And in this regard, a full extract from the repeatedly mentioned revered letter shall be issued to the Trade Office, in order to govern itself accordingly regarding the drawing up of the warrants.

The 23 July. His Honor was likewise, after having taken the requisite oath for this purpose, warmly congratulated on this appointment by the Governor and all the Gentlemen Members of this council, which declaration His Honor made on this occasion; whereupon, pursuant to the aforementioned venerated Letters, the First Sworn Clerk George Fredrik Goetz was installed in his place, as appointed thereto by the same; the said Goetz having taken the requisite oath for this office and having been congratulated on this appointment of his by the Governor and all the Gentlemen Members of the council, the said declaration was made by the said Secretary Goetz alongside. The Right Honorable Gentlemen Commissioners-General, having furthermore ordered by the aforesaid missive that a capable subject be nominated for the post of First Sworn Clerk, on this 23 July the sworn Clerk Rijnier Beck shall be favorably nominated for this, and likewise in his place the Bookkeeper Egbertus Lodewyk Bletterman; and in this regard a complete extract from the aforementioned venerated Letters shall be issued to the Trade Office, in order to conform thereto concerning the preparation of the warrants, while the Governor shall decree the necessary commission to have the administration of the shop surrendered to the head and pay-examiner Matthiessen. 29. Mr. Le Sueur, as President of the Orphan Chamber, having testified that the Orphan Chamber was now sufficiently capable of making the payout without making use of the authorization granted to this council by the Honorable Commissioners-General to advance to it a sum of 30000 Rixdollars, for which proof of special favor His Honor therefore also came to offer thanks on behalf of the Board of Orphan Masters. 66. Thus, respectful notice hereof shall be given to the aforementioned Honorable Commissioners-General, and likewise by extract of this to the Trade Office, in order to consider the preparation of the warrants for this purpose fulfilled. 66.
