Concerning these chintzes, we refer to a separate description that has been made thereof, and, alongside samples, we shall add the assortment of colors annexed to this: Agreed. — V Leensbrugg en This lot has been assigned, while sending the adjacent description to the chiefs, to the station of Sadraspatnam, with the recommendation to observe the adjacent remarks in the delivery. Remarks For the requisition from Coromandel on the requested 1000 pieces of fine chintz on moris 26 cubits long, 2 cubits wide, or else in half pieces as are always sent, of 13 cubits, and thus 2000 half pieces for 1000 whole pieces. The assortment must be: 60 pieces white grounds 10 pieces red ditto 10 pieces green, not clouded 10 pieces yellow 5 pieces purple, not clouded 5 pieces blue 100 pieces, the assortment for a bale of 13 cubits long, 2 cubits wide. Of these 1000 pieces send only a sample of a stripe, large 181 large design, such as the mosaic that is now yellow in the sample; if it could be made light blue, it would be preferable. Among this lot of 1000 whole or 2000 half pieces, 600 pieces or 1200 half must all be large designs, that is tendril-work or ramagi, and in each bale not more than 10 pieces banded, thus and about like the sample, and the remaining 400 or 800 half, all extra small tendril-work assorted as above, finely worked, and no stripe or bouquet. Continuation To the chiefs of the stations to whom the fulfillment of the chintzes mentioned here adjacent has been assigned, we have, while sending the remarks mentioned here adjacent, most earnestly recommended that, in the contracting of the chintzes now requisitioned, they adhere strictly to and follow the description mentioned here adjacent; just as we shall also take care that the lot allotted to this main station be painted after well-chosen designs, and have the assortment of the 100 pieces manufactured such as is mentioned at the side; the samples mentioned here adjacent have likewise not been received. We take the liberty submissively to request Your Right Honorable Grand Worships kindly to send us annually, with the requisitions, new samples of chintzes, and those that are most in demand in Europe, for the reason that the native here invents nothing new, but always remains with the old and the same. Continuation of the requisition for Coromandel for the 10000 pieces of chintz in varieties. These must mostly be medium and small designs, no stripe or bouquet; we send herewith some samples of the medium designs, together with a small tendril-work on red grounds, which can also be sent in white grounds, and request these in that variety of 9 to 9 1/2 cubits, 2 1/2 and 2 5/8 cobidos for an 163 an assortment of 100 pieces, we request: 20 pieces white grounds, large designs 40 pieces small and medium ditto 10 pieces red grounds, large ditto 10 pieces red ditto, small ditto 5 pieces yellow, small ditto 5 pieces purple, large ditto 5 pieces blue ditto ditto 5 pieces green, small ditto 100 pieces with as much difference of designs as is possible; and within the lot, it can be varied so as to take, from the above-mentioned yellow, blue, and green grounds, small designs for large, and large designs for small, and so forth, to furnish a thoroughly fine assortment. A two-masted English ship from the North came to anchor in these roads, belonging to the English free merchant Holford, and departed again on the 20th of this month to the North, the names both of the vessel and of its captain unknown. Arrived in the roads a three-masted English ship from Aceh, bringing along horses and areca, named Charles, commanded by Captain Wattemoor, and departed from here again on the 15th March to the North. Arrived from Malacca a brigantine named Juliana, belonging to the European burgher residing at Surabaya named Johannes Schoemaker, laden with lanteas, Chinese planks, slabs, and powder sugar, brought here and E 3 the same 22nd the same the same 13th the same and on the 9th May thereafter departed again to the North, and laden with nelly, and various linens. The 18th March, arrived here a two-masted sloop named De Standvastigheid from Jaffnapatnam, belonging to the free merchant Jan Stein, laden with palmyras, laths, and jaggery sugar, and departed again on the 2nd April to the South. Arrived a three-masted English ship named Indian Trade from Cochin, commanded by Captain Gibson, and on the 20th April departed from here again to the North. The same 28th the same, arrived in the roads a two-masted Moorish ship belonging to the Moor Fakir Noudoe, from Cheduba, laden with wax, pitch, and Javanese rattans, and on the 3rd April departed again to the North. The 1st April, arrived here in the roads a three-masted English ship named Santa Anna, commanded by Captain Gabriel Vrignon from Aceh, and departed again on the 13th of this month to the North.
