From Anno 1735 From Persia under date 24 August [illegible] inventory 48 pieces matchlocks 2 pieces pikes, and Whether it would not also be useful that likewise in this manner the unusable [illegible] goods mentioned in the aforementioned report now be sent, and meanwhile kept in mind, whenever any unnecessary or unusable goods might appear during the general inventory at the end of August, to likewise separate the one and the other for the same purpose and have them made ready, in order to thus execute as much as possible the management of an orderly household, as required; which having all been jointly approved; We conclude this with our respectful hope and wish that their High Noble Honours' favorable consent may in time follow in general upon the aforementioned dispositions, until the execution thereof. Thus resolved and decreed in the Honourable Company's Gamron on the day, month, and year as recorded in the heading: was signed Js. Romad, C. Enegelsen, Mr. Heijmntsz, W. Meester, Es. Nuijtt, Jn. Bout, and adjunct Secretary E. D. de Haan. Thereupon in this session, the Lord Commander having proposed to the assembled members that the codicillary power of attorney of skipper Dirk van Gunster, who passed away the day before or on the 25th current, had been approved by each of them the day before yesterday upon inquiry after resumption, the same is hereby brought to further notice and confirmed, the instrument containing the following disposition: Today, the 19th of June Anno 1735, appeared before me, Christoffel de Haan, Junior Merchant in the service of the Honourable Company and provisional Secretary of the Gamron council, subject to the authority of the Honourable Lord P. Romna, Merchant and appointed Commander of the Persian Directorate, in the presence of the witnesses to be named hereafter, aboard the Company's vessel Noordwykerhout lying here in the roads, before the sickbed of the skipper of the said Company's vessel, named Dirk van Gunster, who, although somewhat weakened by fevers Tuesday the 28th of June Anno 1735, all present. Resolution taken in the Council of Gamron The Resolution 1st touchstone August Anno 1735. under date 24 From Persia under date 24 August Anno 1735. [illegible] appeared to be sound of mind and memory, declared to constitute and authorize, as he constitutes and authorizes hereby, D. Diefgenbagh, bookkeeper, Hendrik De praic, chief mate, and Arnoldus Tooreman, boatswain, all serving in that capacity on the aforementioned vessel Noordwijkerhout, to the end that, should the constituent pass away either here or on the journey from here to Batavia, which may Heaven graciously prevent, they shall then take possession of his estate left under Slingelandt, and proceed and act therewith in this manner, namely to make a proper inventory of everything, to keep the same in their custody, and upon arrival at Batavia to properly hand it over, by the three of them, or two, or one of these his authorized agents, to the constituent's attorneys residing there at the said capital, named Jeronimus Fransz, master sailmaker in the service of the Honourable Company, and Pieter Donker, freeburgher there, or to their acquired rights; to which end the constituent further referred to his will already made in the year 1726 before the Notary Jan Schock and certain witnesses in Amsterdam, so that the said attorneys may further deal therewith properly, and dispatch the constituent's estate in the manner aforesaid properly and accurately to the fatherland, addressed there to the constituent's lawful wife Barbara Licent; the constituent declaring to have full confidence in the good management of his attorneys; Furthermore, the constituent excludes from his estate the Curators of Insolvent Estates, or those who, by virtue of their office, either here or at any other Indian capital, might presume to be authorized to the administration, very kindly thanking their Honours jointly for the efforts to be made by them; Furthermore, the constituent grants to these his first-named three authorized agents the power to satisfy all such valid and equitable debts as could be claimed and demonstrated with proper proof and balance to the detriment of the constituent; and on the contrary, he further qualifies them to demand and collect all such credits as might still be found outstanding after the constituent's decease in his estate, to constrain the unwilling by way of legal proceedings, to settle therewith, to hear judgment, or to appeal, and all this in such manner as their good counsel shall deem proper, with promise of approval and ratification under obligation according to law. There appeared also for the same purpose the aforementioned three authorized agents, who jointly and each in particular declared to voluntarily accept the charge imposed upon them by this, as is proper according to law. Persia under date 24 August Anno 1735 From Surat under date 24 August Anno 1735: 18 On the day, month, and year aforesaid, in the presence of the assistants Gerrit Hendrik Terre and Emanuel de Poorten, who have signed these presents as witnesses: was signed: Dirk van Guinster. In the margin: present with us: was signed: J. De Terre, D. De Poorten. In the middle, for acceptance: signed: D. Diepenbagh, Hendrik De Prince, and A. Pooreman. Lower: in witness whereof, signed: E. D. Haan, Provisional Secretary. And as now, through the decease of the aforementioned skipper Dirk van Gunster, along with two third mates, Paulus Dijkshoorn of Maaslandsluis and Assuerus De Reus of Enkhuizen, stationed on the ship Noordwijkerhout, all three having followed one another shortly, those posts and various other ship's offices falling vacant by succession and shifting, both on this vessel and on the ship Valkenisse, the same have been replaced again in accordance with the made nomination and statement of the skipper Elias Moewint and chief mates Cornelis Walle and Hendrik de Prince, in the manner as appears below, namely: On Noordwijkerhout: Cornelis Walle of Perre, Anno 1730 with the ship Valkenisse at the Cape of Good Hope, and Anno 1734 per 's-Graveland in the Indies as second mate at 32 florins, advanced to chief mate at 40 florins and as such arrived here, furthermore stationed on the ship Valkenisse as provisional skipper in the place of the deceased Dirk van Gunster, though he will have to solicit the definitive status and wages from their High Excellencies at Batavia. Jan Thant of Middelburg, for sailor at 10 florins Anno 1731 with the ship Groenswaard at the Cape of Good Hope, and Anno 1734 with Noordwijkerhout in the Indies, furthermore per the same vessel arrived here, is now promoted, subject to passing the examination, to third mate and halving of wages to 21 florins per month on his current contract in the place of the deceased Assuerus de Reus. Michiel Dingemans of Zierikzee, per the aforementioned resolution of the 8th of this month from sailor at 12 florins advanced to gunner's mate at 13 florins, is now third mate, subject to examination and halving of wages, to 22 florins per month on his current contract, in the place of the deceased Paulus Dijkshoorn. Christiaan Lambregt of Engelburg, Anno 1730 per the ship Loenderveen in the Indies, and per the vessel Valkenisse arrived here as boy at 5 florins, to gunner's mate at 10 florins per month, or halving of wages on his current contract, in the place of the aforesaid Michiel Dingemans. Pieter Provo of Middelburg, who by our resolution of the 8th of this month from provisional third mate at 22 florins was appointed to definitive ditto at 27 florins, is now advanced to provisional chief ditto, provided he likewise implores confirmation thereof along with an increase in wages from their High Excellencies at Batavia, and shall take the place of Hendrik de Prince of Vlissingen, who for that purpose will have to go aboard Valkenisse. On Valkenisse: Hans Lommekens of Hamburg, according to the aforementioned resolution of the 8th of this current month appointed on this vessel as boatswain's mate at 17 florins, is now, provided that he shall first have passed his examination, promoted to third mate at 24 florins per month by halving of wages on his current contract, in the place of the aforesaid provisional chief mate Pieter Provo. Cornelis van Schaack of Utrecht, Anno 1732 with the ship Huis te Vlotter as gunner's mate at 14 florins in the Indies, furthermore as gunner at 20 florins per Valkenisse arrived here, in such manner as before under examination advanced to third mate with the wage of 32 florins per month under a new contract of three years to supplement the number of pilots with which this vessel was dispatched hither, yet by decease of one on the voyage could not be provided for. Jurriaan Joosten of Huizen, for sailor at 9 florins per Castor and Pollux Anno 1732 in the Indies, and Anno 1733 [illegible] Lucas De Pitt of Dunkirk, quartermaster at 14 florins Anno 1734 per Westkapelle in the Indies, and per Valkenisse arrived here, to boatswain's mate at 17 florins or halving of wages on his current contract, in the place of Hans Lommekens, advanced to third mate. Company. To profit and loss the following trade goods, namely: 325 lb. gumlac Siam, or 3 percent at their cost ƒ936:- 17½ lb. Cardamom Java, or 1 39/94 percent ƒ96:3:- To be seen in the Journal on folio 21, also stated in a separate declaration under No. 10 granted on this subject by the Junior Merchant Abraham van Suchtelen and Bookkeeper Willem Baars, we requesting very humbly that the reasons given therein will be considered valid by Your Honors, and moreover that that gum was sent from Siam to Batavia, from there to Gamron and finally further on to this place, without any short-weight ever having been written off on it. Company's orders and other precedents to see whether they squared with them, it was firstly unanimously deemed necessary and decreed to have the aforementioned 56 pieces of Bengal gunnies eaten by vermin written off again to and debited against the pay account of the residents by halving with two capitals augmentation according to the latest order, in order thus to make them pay for the negligence shown by them in not having had a proper certificate or declaration drawn up in writing, it being their duty at least to send a copy thereof under the appendices, nor mentioning it in the letter according to duty.
