From Persia under date 31 xber 1737 were requested, because at that time there was no prospect of bartering, as a matter of duty being as if forced to resort to that petition in time, so that not a little danger resided in this, and it had to be well considered whether at this time, when those cloths and also the iron (of which in this financial year from primo 7ber to the 14th of this month no more was collected than 2 pieces of the first and 1323 lb of the latter) were to be exchanged against the aurum pigmentum and Lapis tutia without effectively being permitted to do so, and on the other hand one also saw, if the copper could be disposed of in barter to the aforesaid, that one would have to miss the indicated profit for our noble paymasters, principally if the English and French ships (of which none currently lie in this roadstead, but are to be expected any day) might appear, and which also involves a worrying accountability, so that further steps were obligingly taken to consider with all possible attention the high orders of the aforesaid their Right Honourable, Stern, High Respected Worships given at Batavia on 16 August 1735, received together with the previously mentioned report, as well as the later very revered Batavian order of 5 8ber of the past year, in order to begin the work on a more grounded basis or else to let it drop, which then being done, it was evident that preference had to be given to the copper pice, gold ducats, and old copperware, while nevertheless for the rest, being unable to do otherwise, one might well regulate oneself according to the most advantageous minerals, according to the honoured report in the negotiating of the goods on hand; on which grounds that precious license, after all arguments applicable to the case in question, in the best interest of that Company, with the taken advice of the said Mister, was thus unanimously resolved and decided to convert the iron and the raxtapaat through the brokers (if at all feasible) against the named minerals, provided that, when the merchant was persuaded to do so, the samples would be shown to us, both sorts purified, stipulated at the first encounter, and above all to strive that it would also be delivered to us at a lower price; hoping with all humility and from the bottom of our hearts to partake herein in the good success and the highly favourable approvals of our highest mentioned Lords and Masters, the more so that the said wares would otherwise remain entirely unsaleable, and with a longer laying time would also be subject to damage. In the interim, the disbursement for the restoration of the 2 repaired saddles to the amount of 164 68 under the forage and expenses of horses, noted on the specification of the month of September, was passed, since nothing improper occurred in that regard. Right Governing Lord, Pursuant to the highly wise orders of the lords superiors in the Dear Fatherland and Your Honor's further verbal instructions, we the undersigned, as specially appointed commissioners from the Judicial Council, in the presence of the pro tempore fiscal of this directorate, Simon Clement, went on board the small vessel d'Anthonia, which arrived here at the roads yesterday evening from Bassoura. We inspected the same most carefully and discovered no private goods therein, and that the vessel draws 12½ feet at her stern and 11 feet forward, the ship's company present on her having also been properly mustered, and no absentees were found except those who ran away at Bassoura. From Persia under date 31 December 1737 to send that vessel to land on the opposite shore, where several times ships of the Company and other nations have been brought for the said purpose, and to have it repaired again according to ability, since afterward it could also be sent and employed with greater peace of mind wherever it should appear to be of the greatest service and interest to the Honorable Company; upon all which representations the council, after considering the arguments back and forth, and thus with mature deliberations, has equally resolved that it is best and most advisable to detain that small ship, partly because of its condition and partly for the aforementioned motives, as well as to have the ship t Huijs te foreest take in the available cash and returns, and to cause it to navigate alone and as promptly as will be practicable with our humble reports to Batavia, to their High Noble, Severe, and Right Worshipfuls. From Persia under date 31 December 1737 the economizing therein seemed attended to, so both the one and the other were granted and passed, with the provision that Chief Mate Jan Martensz, being assigned to the frequently mentioned Bushehr, must at the first transport make an inventory of the goods provided for use and compile a statement of findings thereof, and have unserviceable goods properly written off in the books; and the said Chief Mate, together with the crew that had been assigned there, shall then after discharge be placed back on the ship 't Huijs te Foreest. Furthermore, it has been approved to have the copper money brought from Bushehr per the Anthonia, calculated by weight at 7000 mamoodies or reduced into white money at 25 percent to 5600 mamoodies, unloaded from that small vessel at the first opportunity and brought ashore, as well as inspected by the Company's brokers and to have us assured of its genuine soundness, to the end that those specie may still be sent in small chests to Batavia per the frequently mentioned ship Foreest according to the most wise orders.
