The most credible news from this region contains principally that Nadersjah has returned to Haraet, others claim to Candahaer, and his son, the Viceroy, to Spahan; likewise that the Belerbegie Mahmed Tackichan in the province of Sistoen, after suffering heavy defeats and losing more than half of his men, is still waiting for his advantage. As for the rest, being excused here, I request permission to refer to the accompanying copy of the daily journal and the letter from the Bassora residents dated 7 February of the current year. Today, the 9th of February 1740, we, the undersigned, Willem du Mee and Cornelis Sonneveld, declare and certify that in the presence of the Merchant and First Resident of this trading post, we have today weighed out to the merchants the remainder of candy sugar and Javanese cardamom, and found that an accurate survey of the entire lots comprised no more than the following, namely: The candy sugar, A: 7079 instead of 8: 758, thus short 679 lbs, or 8 per cent; Javanese cardamom, 1827 instead of 1892, thus short 65 lbs, or 3½ per cent.
