Honorable Commanding Sir and Honorable Sirs From Persia under date of the last of March, the year 1741. In what manner the undersigned judicial delegates, in the presence of the provisional fiscal of this directorship, have executed Your Honors' highly respected order, is hereby demonstrated in all deference; having proceeded to the Honorable Company's inner warehouse and there, shown to us by the merchant and warehouse master the Honorable Christoffel de Haan, a quantity of 10,320 lb. net of cinnamon, arrived here from Batavia per the vessel 't Slot te Kroonenburg, which partly by reason of leakage of the said vessel was found to be undeliverable, having had it qualified by the Honorable Company's brokers, there was found net of good: 8,786 lb. and spoiled, undeliverable: 1,534 lb. amounts again as before net: 10,320 lb. which last mentioned have been properly stored pending further shipment to Batavia. Wherewith, Honorable Commanding Sir and Honorable Sirs, hoping to have executed this our assigned charge to satisfaction, we therefore with deep respect take the liberty to be, subscribed, Persia under date of the last of March, the year 1741. Your humble and obliged servants, was signed: De Wind and Willem Fransz, in the middle, in whose presence, signed: Willem Allardus van Jongstal, in the margin: Gamron the 5th of September 1740, lower: Agrees, was signed: Gerard Carel Sas, First Clerk. Report made and in all deference delivered to the Honorable, Respected Sir Carel Roenad, Senior Merchant and Director of this Persian Directorship, together with the Council. In dutiful fulfillment of Your Honors' highly respected order, and in particular upon the request of the officers of the ship 't Slot Croonenburg in order to answer the actual difference in the tare of the sugar canassers brought by their vessel, the undersigned ship's officers proceeded to the Honorable Company's sugar warehouse in the presence of the merchant and warehouse master the Honorable Christoffel de Haan, as well as in the presence of the provisional fiscal and Honorable Commanding Sir and Honorable Sirs, there had indifferent crates taken out of a whole parcel discharged from the aforementioned vessel, and upon reweighing found the same as is most humbly displayed below, namely: An empty or opened canasser weighs 31 lb. net Ditto ditto ditto ditto 31 lb. Honorable, Respected Sir and Sirs, In conformity with Your Honors' respected command, the undersigned judicial delegates, likewise in the presence of the provisional fiscal the Honorable Willem Allard van Jongstal, have today proceeded to the ships 't Slot te Cronenburg and Middenrak, which returned here yesterday from the Crown's service, in order to make an exact inspection of the cordage, sails, etc., shot to pieces in the naval battle on the 17th instant by the rebellious Arabs; to which end we then first regarding the sails and rigging of from Persia under date of the last of March, the year 1741, of the ship 't Slot te Croonenburg must and will specify that not only certain braces, garnet ropes, clue lines, and other running and standing rigging, partly by the numerous cannon and musket shot received, but especially by their canister shot, have been shot to ribbons and broken to pieces, but also furthermore that its sails are abundantly pierced, and the axles of several gun carriages are so damaged that for the restoration and replacement of the first mentioned running and standing gear, besides the splices already made, several other cables, and for the patching of the second various ells of sailcloth, and for the repair of the last-mentioned some beams for the making of new ditto are needed and required. But now passing over to the ship Middenrak, we must in this regard in all solemnity notify that it is situated and conditioned quite as badly with that vessel; for we have likewise upon accurate examination of the one and the other at first glance easily noticed that the same had been a guest taking part in the midday meal given by the rebels; for its rigging and sails are likewise

Where the time being near, and Ahamed Beecq having departed again for the tent, I thereupon immediately had drawn up concerning the Minab claim such a petition, and conveyed it to His Highness by the aforementioned person, as the translation inserted below with its fiat will demonstrate. Translation of the fiat granted by His Highness Imam Werdie Chan, at the top of the adjacent petition, reading as follows: The supreme command is that His Excellency Mahamed Baker Beecq, Naib of Bender Abasje (Gamron), upon sight of this petition, shall without delay collect the claim of the High and Mighty Dutch Company according to justice and accounts from the hands of the people of the High and Mighty Dutch Company, give a receipt for it, and send it to me. For in case it should appear to me that you step outside these my orders and do not follow them closely, I will cause you overmuch trouble; therefore you must proceed in this matter with the required care. Written in the month of Sha'ban al-Mu'azzam of the year 1153, or according to our style of writing the month of November 1740. Your humble servant makes known to the High and Mighty Dutch Company how the same has to claim certain moneys according to an obligation from the Kalantar Cabaliebeek, a certain Mortula Coeli Beek, and other Minab notables, and although a few small sums have been paid by them, yet they are unwilling to make restitution of the remaining sums, always helping themselves with false pretexts and lies, notwithstanding that the term of that obligation has long since expired. Therefore I request that Your Highness may be pleased to order one of your servants to demand the aforementioned sums from the debtors according to the obligation, that my hope may thereby increase, and my blessings for His Majesty may be multiplied. Furthermore, after some time had passed, His Highness's confidential secretary came by order to ask me whether His Honor, together with the Honorable Council, had authorization to sell to them the vessels lying in the roads at Gamron, to which I replied in the negative, stating that they were not in a position to undertake such a thing without the express orders of our superiors. In the afternoon at 3 o'clock, after I was presented with and invested in a robe of honor brought beforehand by one of his favorites, I was summoned once again to His Highness Imam Werdie Chan at the edge of the camp and escorted there under the guidance of his steward, named Mhamet Beecq. Whereupon, while reading aloud a letter which he would dispatch that same evening with the King's courier to His Majesty, he proposed to me its contents, describing how he had commended the Noble Dutch Company to His Majesty, and also communicated the faithful services which the Dutch had rendered with renown, glory, and courage against the King's rebels, fighting to the uttermost with heart and soul, and with the loss of some Europeans and wounded for the welfare of the Persian crown; indeed, even in what state of readiness the Company's vessels had arrived back at Gamron (as the power of the rebels was too great to attack with two such small keels), and that although it had turned out thus, the zeal of the Dutch Company's servants still burned only to be of service to His Majesty, and other such uncommon expressions on the side of the Noble Dutch Company. For which recommendation and favorable letters I thanked him politely again on the Company's behalf, replying that the Honorable Company had never failed to serve the Crown wherever it was possible and feasible. From Persia under date ult:o March A:o 1741. to write off from the costs of merchandise all the weighing or freight expenses etc. Which order, by those residents, or more properly speaking by the second person Steven Pruymelaar, as the one whom the keeping of those books incumbers, has only been looked at cursorily or with half an eye, without it being rightly understood by him or attention being given thereto, for otherwise he would well have seen that it stated hereafter and not heretofore; in order now to redress the same and bring it back into a proper form, there are, as the undersigned maintains, two expedients: the first heavy though proper, and the second light though also not rejectable.
