2359 From Persia under date the last of December 1740. must depart Batavia-wards according to the orders of our high and mighty superiors. But as the said large ship has not yet been delivered into our hands to this day, whereby we remain deprived of placing our people on that vessel for its clearing and preparation, our fear is that in this present season of storm and rain some misfortune may yet befall this ship, which would be inexcusable both to the King and to our high and mighty superiors; hoping nevertheless that God will graciously prevent such a thing, so that no disgrace may befall us on account of it. If from the beginning things had not been handled in the manner they were, From Persia under date the last of December 1741. this affair would not have been delayed so much, nor would the work have come to its present state, since everything possible has always been done for His Majesty's service. The Company's plenipotentiaries, in all the time that they have frequented these lands and performed services for this crown, have never suffered such an affront; those who are in slavery are not subjected to such ill treatment as we who reside here as guest-friends.
