Furthermore I take the liberty to have this accompanied by the expense account of all that was supplied to the detachments passed through here under command of the Lord Ossenberg, according to the specification annexed hereto signed by said Lord Ossenberg, for the write-off of which I most humbly request Your Right Honourable and Highly Esteemed Sirs to debit it in the general office, in which expectation I remain in all deference below: Right Honourable Widely Commanding Lord and Honourable Lords lower Your Right Honourable and Highly Esteemed Sirs' humble and obedient servant was signed: I. Since my last most humble writing of the 28 December last, having had the fortune to duly receive Your Right Honourable and Highly Esteemed Sirs' most respected missives of the 9th and 15 January following thereafter, for the respectful reply to which I initially take the liberty to present herewith to Your Right Honourable and Highly Esteemed Sirs the petitions submitted to me by the sugar millers currently operating here, containing a request for the From Cheribon the 10 February Anno 1751. the necessary qualification planned for the sugar millers. Serving further that the shahbandar office at Indramaijo, after the death of the former lessee, was not formally transferred to the former shahbandar and postholder there, but that they were purely and solely appointed by my predecessor as collectors of the duties until such time as the deceased's partners who were in Batavia should send another thither in the deceased's place, in such manner as this also happened shortly thereafter, without any detriment to the Honourable Company. Furthermore, I also find myself obliged to offer humble thanks for the granted write-off of the deficits and the intake of the surplus goods found on that occasion upon the making of the transfer, as well as the write-off of the ordinary supplies provided to various ships and vessels, in which I would also not have failed to charge the deficit delivered upon unloading of the pantjalling De Verlegentheijt to Samarang as belonging to that government, had it not been anticipated by the proper declaration

Furthermore, I shall not fail to exert all possible efforts to increase the profits, to the end that the performance thereof in the concluded accounting year may be recovered again, as well as to dispose of the somewhat unneeded remaining stocks upon the arrival of ships, which presently consist of a quantity of 200 lasts of white table rice 9500 bundles of smooth paddy 4500 pounds of coffee beans, ample 8 pounds of black pepper 4 pounds of indigo And a few light pieces of timber at Indramaije, the remainder being the most highly necessary munitions of war, armory equipment, goods, warehouse and working tools, cannon, and some other goods for consumption and cash sale, aside from the cash box, because of whose small amount I take the liberty of having this accompanied by a 7. From Cheribon the 10th of February Anno 1751 a bill of exchange to the amount of twenty-two thousand rixdollars, which monies have been counted into the cash box here by the executors of the estate of the deceased Resident Van der Heijden, in order to be received again by the Reverend Board of Orphan Masters at Batavia; and since the said amount will be duly entered in the trade books here in favor of the General Office, I therefore most humbly request that it may please your High Noblenesses and Great Respectabilities to let the payment thereof be made to the said Chamber, as the said estate is under their administration. Furthermore, I cannot refrain from expressing my gratitude in the very highest degree for your High Noblenesses and Great Respectabilities' favorable approval of my conduct regarding the illicit dealers in opium who have been here with the English vessel The Swallow and the sloop Porto Bello, with the assurance that I shall never fail to guard against that pernicious smuggling with all circumspection. The trade books of this office of the year 1748/1749 packed in a chest we now forward to Your Right Excellencies, to which is attached a statement of the debits and credits, with a comparison against those of the preceding financial year, and from which Your Right Excellencies, if it please you, will be able to see at once the reasons why the account of supplies to calling ships in this financial year has run so much higher than last year, when only 22 ships enjoyed supplies from here, whereas on the contrary we were obliged this year to make supplies to 43 ships as well as lesser vessels, of which the cruising squadron alone in equipment goods, provisions, and board money enjoyed a considerable sum of ƒ 5950:10:— For which reason we respectfully request Your Right Excellencies to be assured that this increase was unavoidable, as we have always observed economy and also shall observe it in the future; to our aforementioned trade books are also attached the Lampong trade books and other papers, being the summary of the cited statement of debits and credits, to which we respectfully refer, as follows. Herewith we have the honor to respectfully offer Your High Noblenesses a model of the account of the Queen Regent, which according to our modest knowledge we have drawn up in such a manner for inclusion in the trade books, regarding which, if it is found to be properly couched, we respectfully request Your High Noblenesses' approval, and that the open entries of the reduction from florins to reals, as well as the maintenance for the King, may through Your High Noblenesses' goodness be filled in and returned to us when opportunity offers, while at the same time we implore Your High Noblenesses' illumination concerning the recent orders regarding the charging of the Lampong expenses and the crediting of the money which the Queen pays annually according to the contract, whether this must be understood with respect to the stipulated 4000 reals for the aforementioned Lampong or otherwise. Since it has pleased the merciful God to grant me a safe voyage thus far, I cannot fail in my bounden duty to communicate to your Right Honours with the utmost respect that, after a voyage of nearly nine months, I have safely come to anchor near Java's second point. Having sailed out from the Texel on 12 July 1749 with the three Company ships, namely Overnes, Akerendam, and Zuiderburg, we were forced on the 15th with our three accompanying ships to come to anchor in the Downs roadstead. Having departed thence again on the 20th, we found on the 30th of that same month that the bowsprit was broken, on account of which breakage, it being judged impossible to continue the voyage before it was repaired, it was resolved to run into the first English port, as we also successfully reached that of Dartmouth on 2 August.
