From Gamron, dated 17 January 1749 After the reading of which, His Honor submitted for consideration whether one should congratulate that young prince, who according to general report is only 12 years old, upon his coming to the throne, or rather wait and see a little, believing at the same time that one did not need to be so precipitate in that regard, as it is not yet properly known how the affairs of the realm will arrange themselves with respect to Jbrahim Miersa, and whether he will accept the given title of Williaad all at once, or perhaps also venture a chance for the crown; regarding which thoughts are still very divided; and that in case he should happen to accept the offered viceroyalty of Jarach, under which Spahan, Tabries, etc., and indeed, as some believe, even these lower lands belong, it would then nonetheless be necessary that one recognized him therein; the more so as his two brothers occupy, the one the post of golden staff-bearer, and the other that of dispenser to the new prince, so that it could well be that virtually the entire power of the realm would remain in the hands of him, Jbrahem Miersa, and the prince would only have to content himself with the bare title. And since the other members agreed with the opinion of His Honor, it was therefore resolved to wait and see the outcome of the realm a little longer, and to leave the matter deferred for the present to all-revealing time. From Gamron under date 17 January 1749 being an amount of ƒ429:13:— or at 7½ stivers the mamudi reduced to ample m.s 1144:-, therefore, after consideration of the necessary matters, it was approved and agreed to have his surviving widow summoned by the fiscal for the aforementioned monies, in order by that means to indemnify the Honorable Company against loss. From Gamron, dated 12 March 1749 Gamron, this last day of February in the year 1749 in the margin exhibited in the Council of Policy at Gamron this 12 March 1749 signed A. van Nes, Secretary. It is unanimously resolved, in order to avoid all further confusion, to make redress once and for all and to have the trade bookkeeper record without delay that which was found in excess as well as write off that which was found to be short, while one has also accepted for communication the comparison made between the weights and the standard gauge, according to the report, since they were all found to correspond with one another. Finally, upon the verbal petition made by some clerks, on account of their attested poverty and the considerable high cost of provisions, it was resolved to let the distribution of the 5 percent on the sold merchandise, so graciously promised and assigned to us by Their Right Excellencies, take place under today's date, in the hope and expectation that the said Right Excellencies will not take amiss the boldness assumed in this case, but on the contrary will honor it with their universally renowned indulgence, since one has proceeded to this for no other motives than those cited above; while each person promises to recompense this benefit according to honor, oath, and duty with fidelity and candor, and to endeavor to make himself more and more worthy thereof. From Gamron, dated 15 April 1749 Resolution taken in the Council of Policy at Gamron on Tuesday the 15th of April in the year 1749, all present. On the 12th and 14th of this month, having been duly received by the private vessels De Karsseboom and Roos galley from Bassoura the ministers' letters of 6 March and [illegible] previously, both these dispatches were presented today in Council by the Honorable temporary Commander after appearance and prayer made, and having read them, it was noted from the same the consignment sent hither by the first-mentioned vessel of a chest of gold to the value of ƒ124120:3:8, with a further request to forward the same by the first secure seagoing opportunity towards Coromandel. Upon this, after ample and broad deliberation, and having considered what is necessary and deemed best for the Honorable Company, it was decided to comply with the request of those ministers at present and to transport the aforementioned funds thither by the first-mentioned vessel, on the grounds that this opportunity is considered sufficiently secure; under this restriction, however, that those ministers shall be requested in the first departing letter to make their intentions regarding such commissions somewhat clearer to us in the future, or otherwise to send their funds directly from Coslij on their own account; and for which reasons one has now proceeded thereto after much deliberation, considering not only the uncertain opportunity for forwarding hereafter, but also at the same time the loss of profit that the Honorable Company would have to forgo upon those funds in case of detention; while they shall also be written to and requested to enter the disbursed ƒ180:—: — for the forwarding of the Honorable Company's papers to the Fatherland into the books to the debit of their residency, since on this location one will also deal similarly with matters of such nature, in the manner as was recently done with the payment of two Basra messengers; but with respect to their reported shortfall of 17 pieces of coarse gangernaat poerse cassas from the bale marked No. 580, one will not only refer them to the original repacking note, which clearly shows the repacking at Batavia of 63 pieces, but also at the same time to the invoice sent thither by the yacht De Leijdzaamheijd, since they were charged therein not for 80, but indeed for 63 pieces, and therefore, if a little better reflection had been applied in that regard, they would certainly have become easy at once. A return of the merchandise sold at this factory having been drawn up by the second in command of this direction, Jacob Carelsz, and exhibited by the Honorable temporary Commander, it thereby appeared that in the period of 7½ months, on a purchase value of ƒ87081:2:8, a net profit of an amount of ƒ126375:11:8, or 145 1/10 percent well on average, was gained for the Honorable Company, for which one has reason to thank His Divine Majesty wholeheartedly, the more so because through the sale of almost all our pound goods and the greatest part of our piece goods, we are now in a position to send a formal demand towards Batavia, which it is hoped may be fulfilled as soon as possible through the goodness of Their Right Excellencies, since one does not doubt that trade will increase daily by leaps and bounds, if only the grandson of Nader Shah, named Shahrukh Shah, maintains the throne, and the co-claimant Ibrahim Mirza cedes his pretension, either through an amicable settlement or by some other means, and

Finally, it has been resolved regarding the cooper of this shore, named Pieter Paire of Antwerp, upon his submitted written petition, provided he enters into a new engagement, to grant him permission to exchange the aforementioned four pieces of original pay accounts amounting to the sum of f 204: 6: 12 in cash with the Honorable Company, in the hope and expectation that the gracious indulgence of Their High Excellencies may in due course follow regarding what we have done. From Gamron under date 7 July 1749 Having been exhibited the repair account drawn up by the purser and submitted to this assembly, amounting to 9069 mamoedies at f 2720:14:-, together with a specification of the incurred expenses on some horse harnesses to the amount of 228 mamoedies at f 68:8:-, it was found upon careful revision of the first-mentioned that it ran somewhat high on stock, yet considering the numerous materials that had to be employed for that work, the one and the other were approved as having been of the utmost necessity; while furthermore, because of our small stock of coconut oil, and because the same is also not to be obtained at all, it was decided henceforth to issue to no one anything other than one half mutsje a day for a lamp at the front gate, but when the same might become more opulent upon arrival either from Batavia or elsewhere, then to have half rations distributed again.
