From Java's East Coast, the 3rd of April 1731. of this council in the absence of the first signatory: could have been put into execution and brought about, your Right Excellencies have already been given the due knowledge and communication by our very submissive and humble letters; also concerning the unsettled points, the due answering of which had to remain postponed until now because of their importance; and further concerning everything remarkable that came to pass here and elsewhere on the coast in the management since our last respectful letter of the 27th of September of the past year up to and including the 23rd of February of the current year. Thus, respectfully referring ourselves regarding that to those very humble advices, being now inclined to discharge ourselves further of our bounden duty and proceed to the due answering of the aforementioned unsettled articles, as well as your Right Excellencies' highly esteemed letters received since, dated the 16th, 19th, and 24th ultimo, as well as the 5th and 13th of this month; preliminarily giving priority to your Right Excellencies' recently venerated orders, we have the honor to make that respectful declaration to your Right Excellencies in general, and humbly report that we have carried out to the letter all the highly venerated orders mentioned in the just-cited respected letters, both regarding the escaped Chinese and the requested linens for Bassoura, as well as regarding the loading of the ship Meervliet, alongside the completion and rigging of the sloops lying ready at Rembang for Mallacca, as well as the building of three others in their place for Chormandel; and we have repeatedly and emphatically ordered the residents in general to observe more than ever the utmost speed regarding the dispatch of the loading of the vessels lying at their offices. Thus, not at all doubting whether the hulls present here will be able to return to your Right Excellencies as soon as possible, as soon as the weather permits in any way, which 11. From Java's East Coast, the 3rd of April 1751. is now no longer as favorable as it was a month ago, and that those sloops and tanjong pouras for Malacca and Chormandel can be dispatched and sent off at Rembang and Ioana once prepared and loaded according to your Right Excellencies' venerated order, following the high order and contents of your Right Excellencies' highly venerated letter of the 5th of this month, which reached us only three days ago, and whose further contents, together with all that has been prescribed to us further by your Right Excellencies in all the preceding highly esteemed letters, both with relation to Major Saure and the militia, we shall take for our bounden instruction and compliance. The first signatory expresses to your Right Excellencies in the humblest and most submissive manner his gratitude for the license favorably granted to him to make a short trip to the Indian capital, of which he hopes to be able to avail himself with peace of mind if affairs remain in their present state, and thus to undertake the journey with the first departing ship; while in the meantime we are sincerely sorry that we cannot also dispatch with the returning ships the surplus European militia demanded by your Right Excellencies from this coast, because these, although few in number above the stipulated fixed garrison, cannot yet well be spared with peace of mind. We therefore pray very submissively that you will not take this amiss of us, and meanwhile take the liberty to present to your Right Excellencies herewith a short general strength report of all the soldiers, both native and European, serving and present here on the coast, with and alongside our council resolutions of the 17th, 24th, and 29th ultimo. To ensure the prompt delivery of Your High Excellencies' respected letter to the Banjarmassin Resident, we hired a vessel for 115 Rixdollars, as at present no private traders are departing from here for that destination, and we otherwise had no opportunity to send it there in another and secure manner. Furthermore, upon the notification given by Resident Coertsz that there were no heavy beams of 80 feet in stock for the ship Meervliet at Rembang, and that they would not arrive anytime soon, we were also obliged, in the hope of Your favorable interpretation, to authorize him to load that keel with knees, supports, and other heavy timber on hand, and to dispatch it towards Batavia as swiftly as possible. On that occasion, we not only demanded from him a list of what vessels are on the stocks there, but also ordered him to provide an accurate indication of how far they have advanced and for which orders still remain, in order to be able to give Your High Excellencies the requisite explanation of what can actually be completed in a full year at that shipyard. Both matters will, if it pleases Your High Excellencies, appear at length in our aforementioned resolutions, including that of the 17th, stating among other things that on that day, as it came to be known more and more from time to time that considerable usury was being practiced with the Spanish quarters by exchanging them below their value, we thought it proper to issue a placard against this illicit practice, which tends greatly to the detriment of the merchant, and thereby strictly to interdict the same. Furthermore, to issue circular orders to all Residencies along the coast against the transport of jaggery, sugar, and rice to Benkoelen, believing thereby, subject to Your High Excellencies' favorable approval, to have prevented all smuggling and illicit From Java's East Coast the 3rd of April 1751. From Java's East Coast the 3rd of April 1732 illicit trade, to which the exchange of goods there gives great cause. We hope and trust that neither will be found contrary to Your High Excellencies' highly revered intentions. Furthermore, regarding our decision taken to send over the officers and other crew members of the ship Cleverskerk, which was lost near Crimon Java, to Your High Excellencies with the first returning ships; for although a distinct account of their experiences was given to us by the captain and officers of that bottom, we are nevertheless, being destitute of sea charts, unable to discover here by whose fault and by what unfortunate accident that keel came to be lost. This is therefore also the essential reason why we cannot give Your High Excellencies any distinct report regarding this matter, and must on the contrary report that, notwithstanding all the effort being made, we have hitherto not been able to recover either of the two Europeans who remained on the island of Crimon Java, nor any goods, because that island cannot yet be sailed to with small vessels on account of the heavy currents. Nevertheless, we cherish the hope that at the turning of the season at least the cash will be recoverable from the wreck, provided it is not entirely broken to pieces in the meantime, and to this end, in accordance with our bounden duty and obligation, we shall leave nothing undone, praying most humbly that Your High Excellencies will please be reassured of this. And proceeding meanwhile to the outstanding points, we have the honor first to offer respectfully to Your High Excellencies herewith a distinct list of all the sugar mills, with an indication of which of them are privileged and actually grinding, as well as where the same are situated on this Coast, and we shall not fail to inform ourselves regarding island.

From Java's East Coast, the 7th of May 1751. to give notice of what has occurred since that time until now; thus, having no highly revered missives from Your Right Honourables to answer, and giving priority to the matter of the ships according to custom, we have the honour respectfully to report that the ships Scheijbeek, Langewijk, and 't Huijs te Spijk have already undertaken the voyage toward Batavia on the 30th of April and the 7th of this month; and which we hope, together with all the other ships lying here on the coast taking in cargo, namely Meervliet, Sara Jacoba, Vrijburg, and Rijnhuijsen, will have returned to Your Right Honourables in good time before the arrival of the bearer of this, the ship 's Heeren Arendskerke. The last-mentioned vessel, on which the first-signed is crossing to Batavia pursuant to Your Right Honourables' high licence, was loaded at Japara and Qualladamak with: 75 pieces of beams, 25 feet long, 160 lasts of rice, amounting, including its charges, to f 5020:14:-, as shown by the invoices and bills of lading annexed hereto in all submissiveness, which we have the honour most humbly to present to Your Right Honourables alongside the invoices and bills of lading for what was loaded onto the aforementioned ships Meervliet, Sara Jacoba, Vrijburg, and Rijnhuijsen, together with eight expense accounts for what was furnished to their crews and the repairs carried out on them, amounting to f 3986:13. Regarding the silk culture, we have the honor to offer Your High Mightinesses, according to what was respectfully noted in our last submissive and humble letter of the 3rd of April past, a copy of the report received regarding this from the Soeracarta Chief Toutlemonde.
