From Java's East Coast, the 30th of November 1751. have effected, and the aforementioned Regents, as well as all other enthusiasts for the lease, have been urged and ordered to present themselves to your Right Honourables together with the Governor against the stipulated time, trusting therefore that this much-revered order of your Right Honourables will be complied with in every respect, however much this seems to be hindered and held back by the season, which since the middle of this month has no longer shown itself as moderate as it generally was in the beginning of this month. It is therefore that several coastal regents have already had to tarry here for some days, and that the undersigned Governor undertakes the journey to your Right Honourables by the land route, because the ship 'T Hoff Duno, with which he had otherwise intended to cross, is very much obstructed and hindered by the heavy winds in taking in its cargo at Japara. The bark De Spreeuw has been sent on by us to Rembang and Joana to take in, at the first residency, 25 lasten of salt, and at the second, moreover, as much rice as it will indeed be able to load. We trust that those troops will stand the said head officer in no small stead for a time, and particularly during the pursuit of the rebels to the south in the uplands, and we shall not fail to dispatch the same back to the Celebes Coast after that, in accordance with your Right Honourables' much-revered order. From Java's East Coast, the 29th of February 1752. Regarding the teak tree seeds. The necessary orders have been given regarding the vessels for Banda. The ships left the paddy at Grisse and took in what is listed alongside. Upon receipt of Your Right Honourables' first-mentioned missive, the necessary orders were immediately given, both for the collection of mountain seeds of teak trees for the government of Banda and for the purchase of Javanese cloths according to the sample sent over, as well as for the construction of a sailing boat and a large scow, both at Rembang and in the eastern corner. We flattered ourselves that we would be able to comply with Your Right Honourables' revered orders by dispatching the one and the other, except for the sailing boat, which, according to the testimony of the Rembang resident, could not possibly be built and made ready so quickly. Furthermore, as the desired cloths could not be purchased and obtained, either here or in Sourabaija, despite all efforts, for less than an excessive price of 10 rds the corge, we did not dare to exceed Your Right Honourables' revered orders without your prior authorization. The two pantjallangs which, according to Your Right Excellencies' venerated order mentioned in the missive of the 19th of October of the past year, had to be sent by us to that government, have already been dispatched thither, and cost, with their equipment, goods, and mounted small artillery, according to the transmitted invoice of account which is offered herewith to Your Right Excellencies in copy, ƒ 12307:3:—. For the write-off that Your Right Excellencies have been pleased to grant us so graciously in your respected advices of the 31st of December last, we express our humble gratitude, as well as for the military personnel and merchandise sent hither with the ship the Erfprins, all of which arrived in very good condition, except for 4 pieces of hats and 6 reams of cartridge paper, which we have made skipper Schoneman compensate, while against this the administration here was credited for the amount of salt delivered short by the ship Haarleem. Taking meanwhile very humbly the liberty, in accordance with Your Right Excellencies' much venerated missive of the 31st of December past, to let accompany herewith the invoice of account of all that must be compensated by the administrations of the Indian main factory, and also of such goods as were charged by Your Right Excellencies to the officers of the aforesaid vessel for compensation; and we pray Your Right Excellencies for a favorable license for the writing-off of those items, as well as that it may please Your Right Excellencies to favorably accommodate the officers regarding the levy of the craftsmen in the past year who were destined for the Banda province, because this took place partly out of necessity and partly through the deception of Captain-Lieutenant Josias Ruts. We also respectfully request Your Right Excellencies to be allowed to write off 20 bags of rice which, without anyone's fault, during the transfer from the ship the Erfprins, became wet and spoiled due to the heavy surf before the river, as well as 277 lb of sugar of the first sort and 1 coyang 23 piculs of rice, which, as well as the sugar, were unfortunately lost in the Japara river during a heavy storm, as Your Right Excellencies, if it pleases you, will be able to see from the declarations inserted into our resolutions of the 22nd of January and the 9th of this month, which we have the honor to present herewith to Your Right Excellencies, together with and alongside those of the 2nd, 16th, and 23rd of February; containing principally that of the 2nd of this month, that we, on that day during the deliberation on the venerated contents of Your Right Excellencies' honored missive of the 31st of December past, noted that the subordinate officials were mainly responsible for not sending the statements of the remainders of the spun silk and cotton yarn; wherefore it was approved to demand immediately the aforesaid statements from all subordinate residents and chiefs, and seriously command them to send the statements of that nature and all others without delay hither under the date of the last of October, as we also shall have the honor to do to Your Right Excellencies as soon as those papers shall have come in. That head-money in that book-year, after deduction of ƒ16878:—:— (which properly is the annual head-money), was greater by ƒ51819:—:— than it would otherwise have been on its own. Thirdly, that furthermore the revenues from the lease and head-moneys in the book-year 1749/50 were less than in the preceding one is caused by the fact that the farmers in the book-year 1748/9 received no remissions from Your High Nobilities, whereas in the book-year 1749 and 1750 the granted remission to the farmer of the minting of lead pitjes amounted to ƒ3975:—:—, together ƒ8375:—:—; also that the lease payments of some shahbandars did not come in before the closing of the books and will only be collected in the upcoming books; and Furthermore, that the Javanese regents, having been partly in the field, were unable to pay their contingent of the head-money amounting to ƒ16878:—:— on time, which aforementioned funds must therefore only be collected in the book-year 1750/51. We hope that the findings and the aforementioned report provided may be found satisfactory by Your High Nobilities, and the first-mentioned document may now be favorably approved. And we furthermore take the liberty to give Your High Nobilities the respectful assurance that, since these funds were collected along with other revenues, we assume, under Your High Nobilities' favorable opinion, that there will be no disparity in the revenues of the two book-years. Sourabaya, an amount of 4360 Spanish rixdollars in arrears is accounted for. Kaddoe tobacco, re-leased. to supply in order to prevent all confusion as well as abuses, so that the receiver of the domains may afterwards prepare his books with peace of mind and it may remain evident to us how vigilance has been exercised regarding the collection of the lease monies at all terms. We flatter ourselves that this order of ours will merit Your Excellencies' favorable approval, as well as our resolution taken on that day to hope that those ministers, since they have hitherto remained in default of supplying us with the required report as to whether the old arrears, in accordance with our resolution of the 27th of October past, in which the Company's treasury was reimbursed by those who collected the revenue, or rather to relieve that office of the damage amounting to 4360 Spanish rixdollars, caused solely by the negligence of the aforesaid ministers. Furthermore, it will please Your Excellencies to observe from the aforesaid resolution that on the same day, because the Sourabaya regents Sittjanagara and Indramatta for reasons mentioned therein were unwilling to keep the Sourabaya shahbandar office with its toll gates as it had been leased to them by Your Excellencies by farm for 750 rixdollars a month, we were compelled to re-lease that farm as well as that of the Kaddoe tobacco, because the regents of that land, notwithstanding the various admonitions already made to them for that purpose, nevertheless remained in default of paying their contingent for the first term with the Sourabaya farm; the first to the Chinese Tan-Li-Enko for 900 Spanish rixdollars, or 150 Spanish rixdollars per month more than that for which it had been granted to the Sourabaya regents, and the latter to the Chinese Tan Tianko for the same price of 285 Spanish rixdollars per month, under such securities as may be seen in the aforementioned resolution. Furthermore, on the very same day, we also had to resolve to seize and have sold the estate left by the deceased Chinese Captain Que Ionko for the arrears on his previous lease of the birds' nest cliffs amounting to 5500 rixdollars, in order to seek the Company's indemnity from the proceeds thereof. These undertakings were also attended with such desired success that both aforementioned posts were settled, so that on the old lease there remains in arrears only a single post, which we hope will also be settled within a short time in accordance with Your Excellencies' much-venerated intention. We trust that the aforementioned measures, of which we inevitably had to make use, will not displease Your Excellencies, nor that we, under Your Excellencies' favorable construction, in the session of the 2nd of this month, it is hoped that it will be approved in this manner, to prevent the manifold frauds that are committed regarding the trade and the stamp duty by those coming from Borneo and elsewhere, decided to charge the receiver of the Lower Javanese domains with the execution of the office of shahbandar, under enjoyment of such douceur and under such restrictions as are described at length in a regulation drafted for his information and observance, as well as inserted in our resolution of the aforesaid date, which we humbly pray may be favorably approved by Your Excellencies; as well as our authorization granted in the session of the 16th last to the Tagal Resident Valk upon his proposal by letter of the 4th prior, in accordance with your venerated missive of the 1st of October 1748, because thereby not only will many expenses for the Company be saved, but also the grains and other products that are stored in the same can be preserved just as well.

Yet, despite this precaution, as few leaseholders for that aforementioned island as buyers for the buildings on the island De Nesse appear to present themselves thus far, several interested parties indicating on the contrary that they were more inclined toward the actual purchase of the aforementioned island than to its leasing, some having already offered 4, 5 to 6000 Rds. for it. However, because we are only authorized by your High Excellencies for the former, and consequently have not dared to execute or attempt anything in that regard without your High Excellencies' prior knowledge, we take the liberty merely to place that matter before your High Excellencies hereby and to beseech your High Excellencies' further esteemed opinion as to how we are to behave in that regard, believing meanwhile, in case your High Excellencies should incline toward the sale, that the aforementioned island (which at present, because of maintaining it annually at the change of the season, is more of a disadvantage than an advantage for the Company) might fetch even more than the already offered highest price of 6000 Rds.
