Samto thereof to Your Right Honourables, subject to whose highly esteemed approval, at the session of 20 June last, it was agreed, in place of the departed and burnt pantjallang De Spion, purchase of the pantjallang to save many expenses, to purchase from the said in place of the burnt resident and acquire his De Spion new, well-sailing pantjallang De Vliegende Vis, mentioned in our respectful advices of the last of May, for a sum of 2,000 rixdollars. From Java's East Coast the 25 February 1754 the same being. commissioners for the discharge, the junior merchants Mr. Pieter Luzac and Fredrik Pieter Dekkers, so that it may appear to Your Right Honourables which goods were delivered by its officers in short measure, damaged, or contrary to the contents of the invoice, and upon which it was decided by us at the meeting of the 5th of December that the package of scarlet cloth which was found damaged in case No. 138 shall, without any delay on the part of those officers, be disposed of at the next Company auction to be held for whatever it will fetch, and on the other hand that the case with 5 pieces of black cloth marked L:a C: be sent back to Batavia because it was undoubtedly shipped by mistake instead of the one known in the invoice under L:a 9: with dark blue cloth, provided also that all that which exceeds the write-off for permitted shortages under its general regulation of the 15th of August 1752 to the amount of f 356:—: shall, according to the order, be charged on the account invoice to the principal place in the Indies to be made good by the deliverers, not counting the cost of the 1395 pieces of flints found short, 3 chickens and 10 bundles of match cord in kind, and 66 sheets of cork, regarding which or the percentages to be validated thereon no mention is made in the aforesaid regulation, just as therefore regarding that, and regarding the grenade broadswords, wheat (insofar as it exceeds the customary underweight), shot, grapeshot and musketoons delivered in short measure by the officers of the ship De Geregtigheijd mentioned in the resolution of the 20th of June, pursuant to Your Right Honourables' much respected order of the ultimo September, we presently take the liberty of sending off the account invoice in the company of twenty other invoices and bills of lading or bill of lading invoices alone, both on account of the cost of the sent rice and down feathers to Your Right Honourables, and of the newly built troop-pancallangs, as well as of what was transported by the ships De Geregtigheijd, Ruijskersteijn, Saamslag, Haarlem, Amstelveen, Duijnenburg, Kerkwijk, 'T Huijs te Manpad, and the barques De Spreeuw and Vriendschap, summing together f 87878:—:8, which with the expenses incurred on those keels and on the ship Ouwerkerk to the amount of f 5995:18:8, as appears from the fourteen expense accounts attached hereto, we respectfully request may, by Your Right Honourables' favorable permission, be passed for write-off, as well as the cost of the completed warehouses at Tagal to the sum of f 14855:6:—, according to the specifications inserted thereof into our resolution of the 19th of December, item 1 bottle of spirits of sal volatile oleosum at 2 lb, and 3 ditto at 8 lb with rose water, which among the medicines brought by the ship Overschie were found broken and spoiled, as well as of everything that, according to what was noted in the resolution of the 5th of the same month of December, in a very unfortunate and untraceable manner was destroyed in the Company's camp at Batoe on the evening of the 16th of October by a violent fire in war ammunition, weapons and other goods, and in part was provided anew to the Company's dragoons and infantry, both European and native, of the Captains Von Kain and Steen Muller, Jahn Kirchner, Van de Pol, Neuman Tollong and Kesser, as well as of the 2 pieces of grapnels which were lost off Bali by hard wind and current by the vessel that was employed thither by the first-signed for the transport of the letters and gifts consigned to the princes of that realm. On the other hand, we express in the most emphatic manner our obligation to Your Right Honourables for the write-off granted in the repeatedly cited letter of the ultimo September of a sum of f 8973:2:8:— in the Tagal books on account of the goods lost in the year 1752 through the invasion of Mangkubumi at the Pekalongan warehouses, and of the 42 bottles of sack, item 7 bottles of gin which were found short upon the unloading of the ships Dieshoek and Vreedesteijn; with regard to which article those among us whom it concerns shall strictly endeavor to conduct themselves according to Your Right Honourables' regulation on the incoming and outgoing delivery, receipt and shipment, with all that relates thereto, dated the 20th of August past, and in the provisions etc. to be supplied to the ships according to the order previously established in the Council of India on the 30th of July, which, as well as concerning the correction of the sea charts from its very honored circular letter of the 6th of April, was sent in copy to the subordinate offices with a copy of the placard concerning the prolongation of the patent granted to the Opium Society, and a copy of the general regulation for the improvement of the Company's servants, of the instructions as to what cargo accounts are necessary in the respective trade books and how those and the pay books must be examined, item of the regulation on the format of the medicine requisitions and the provision of the medicines themselves, as well as of the models of the short strength returns of the military and of the unappraised goods, and further of the extracts from Your Right Honourables' highly respected resolutions of the 9th of February, showing in what manner the lesser amount of the found underweights than what the general regulation of the 15th of August 1752 dictates regarding the percentage to be validated on the delivered cargo shall have to be made good to the ship's officers.

[illegible] of 16 February, renewing the order of 8 December 1744 regarding the write-offs of expenses for completed and uncompleted buildings and repairs in the year that they occur; of 6 March, ordering that when sending criminal prisoners, the proceeds of their seized goods must simultaneously be remitted to the secretary of the Council of Justice; of 4 May and 17 August, determining the sale price of cinnamon and bar iron; of 27 July, renewing the prohibition against taking on and shipping private goods on ships underway, in order to better prevent and counter all illicit trade and abuses regarding permitted trade with the Company's ships; and of 20 August, demonstrating the procedure against one or another qualified servant of the civil administration, the navy, the military, or other professions, whether bookkeepers or higher in rank, who, for known or unknown reasons, absents himself from his assigned post and goes missing, for the information and observance of the chiefs and residents. And the Grissee resident Pijll has also been ordered to send in well-secured custody to India's principal place the Chinese J- O- Trongko, who secretly fled thither and remained a co-guarantor for the Chinese miller J: - O- Jnko, in order that the privileged Opium Society itself may prompt, or even compel, him to pay what he as co-guarantor might owe, because it was omitted in the extract of the resolution of the 23rd of May submitted by them to Your Noble High Excellencies to specify the amount of the sum that was to be demanded from that debtor without having; nonetheless, according to the statement made thereof, a co-guarantor of the farmer at that place is now once again the aforementioned Chinese Nio Soanko, and perhaps also a participant in the lease itself according to the custom among that nation. From Java's East Coast the 25 July 1754 Wages have been granted to four defectors from Mangkunegara, and their pay resumes, for reasons concerning not only the wages of the assistant surgeon Hendrik Gabriel Marschal, the sergeant Johan Andries Lanko, and the soldier Johan Hendrik Schroder. From Java's East Coast the 4th of April 1754 From Java's East Coast the 11th of April 1754 High Council and to appoint and promote the second signatory again as his successor, to submit herewith the transfer of the handover made by the one to the other of this government of Samarang, to whose debit since the year 1742/5 still remain 14072 pounds net or 4728304 pieces of lead cash sent here in those times, amounting for this office, calculated at 16 in a stuiver, to rixdollars 6156:36 or ƒ14776:4. And since the same cannot be disposed of here and, with the permission of His Excellency the Governor-General, are to be sent to Cheribon with the ship Stralen, we very reverently pray that Your Excellencies will favorably allow us to write off that large amount, together with a sum of rixdollars 3196:13:8 or ƒ7671:1:8 regarding what was lost on a sum of rixdollars 10127:9 or ƒ24305:5 in Spanish quarters upon melting them down, to which course of action one proceeded with good intentions because that coin had to be accepted in the year 1751 in payment of the Company's lease and auction monies, which afterward no one, despite the issuance of a placard concerning it, would accept as valid or take back at their valuation, because of their clipping and counterfeiting to which those coins were so greatly subject, so that in order to prevent all civil unrest among the citizenry and to be relieved of them all the sooner, in accordance with the highly respected missive of Your Excellencies of the 24th of July 1751, no better expedient could be devised than melting them down.
