29 July 239 728 29: July 8 July 1757, accounted back to this Directorate f 749:9. — Deduct 3465 lb of saltpeter in 24 bags, which sank with a small vessel, and were written off in the Journal of the year 1760 page 273 at. . f 539:11. – Remains still to be reimbursed 1348 lb of saltpeter at - - - - - - - - f 209:18.— This alleged deficiency of weight, having originated solely from 10 pieces of escort notes from here on board, which together would have dictated so much less, but of which the originals or copies were requested, but as far as I am aware, have not appeared, this item ought rather to be written off. Note, this and the following item were already treated in detail by Resolution of 26 April 1763. Thirdly: The cost of 6149 lb of Rice and 762 pieces of long gunnies sent back hither from the ship Vosmaar among other goods, but found short here, which according to the decision of Your Right Honorable under date of 20 March 1757 must be reimbursed, because it is encumbered with - - - - - - - 186. –. – Of the aforementioned Rice, according to the statement of the ship's officers, 340 packages were supposedly sent back, although only 328 were received here, thus already a difference of 12 bags; if one now takes into consideration that the Rice was shipped unweighed, the assertion of a deficiency seems to lose its basis, so that this item could also be settled on the General Account. It therefore requires that further elucidation from the Head Settlements be requested regarding this, if it can be done that the present acting pay bookkeeper submits the necessary demonstration.
