Summary of the Resolutions Resolutions of 24 December 1764, taken in the Council of Policy at Padang on Sumatra's West Coast, beginning on 24 December 1764 and ending on the last of December anno 1765 Continuation of the resolutions of 4 January The envoys from Sourouassa were received according to custom. Folio 2. The sloop de Haazewind has departed to the south. Folio 2. To fetch the aforementioned 38 packs of linens from Adjerhadja. Folio 2. The petition of Thomas van Kempen was read. Folio 2. To forward the same to Their High Mightinesses. Folio 1. The request of the assistant surgeon Hoorenbeek is denied. Folio 3. Three Buginese have deserted from Adjerhadja. Folio 3. To charge their account for what was taken along. Folio 3. The appointment by the Reverend Church Council of the elder Jo Douglas and the deacon Cs de Buiser is approved. Folio 4. The report of the delivered cargo was reviewed. Folio 4. The same was well delivered, except for 1420 lb of rice, which became wet and spoiled between ship and shore. Folio 4. Resolutions of 18 January 1765 The small vessel De Jonge Petrus Albertus was lost from sight on the 7th. Folio 15. The Ida Wilhelmina has departed for Ayer Bangis with the alongside-mentioned textiles. Folio [illegible]. The English small vessel the Bombay Merchant arrived here on the 14th. Folio [illegible]. Challier reports that the Emperor of Indrapura was solemnly presented on the 22nd of last month. Folio 16. Further, that a Company slave has died. Authority to write off the same. Folio [illegible]. Friday the 4th of January Anno 1765. The King of Troesang has arrived to clear himself of the complaints received, which mainly consist of alleged acts of violence committed by him. The King of Troesang having been summoned hither by resolution of the 7th of the previous month, and having arrived here on the 18th following, the Honorable Commander initially gave the necessary communication thereof, adding that His Honor had convened this meeting expressly to investigate the complaints of the chiefs of the Tegablas-Cottas against the said Radja, and to hear the defense of that prince, for which purpose the first-mentioned chiefs were requested to appear before this assembly. And having subsequently appeared, they presented several writings containing the complaints about the acts of violence that the said Radja had committed against the Tiga-blas-Cottas and his subjects by imposing various unjust fines, confiscating their goods, and driving them away, as was set forth at large in the said papers, to which they referred in order to avoid prolixity, requesting this council to procure them adequate satisfaction by deposing him and granting proper redress for the damage caused by him. The aforementioned chiefs having, on the other hand, declared that their complaints contained the pure truth, and that they could sufficiently prove the same, they therefore persisted, without the least deviation, in their demand. The Radja of Troesang, having also been called inside and having heard the aforementioned complaints, denied them entirely, adding that these matters would have to be proved against him, in which case he would then be prepared to compensate the damage caused. Both parties having thereupon stepped outside, the Honorable Commander put the question as to what ought to be done in this matter; whereupon the Panglima and his twelve Ponghoulous advised that they were of the opinion that the said Radja should be deposed from his dignity, and that the government of Troesang should be entrusted to 8 Ponghoulous, who would then govern this district as of old, since it appeared to them that the chiefs of the Tiga-blas Cottas would in no other way be pacified, and that otherwise one might easily come to a rupture with them. The Honorable Commander, having thus heard the advice of the Landraad, remarked that it was based on no bad grounds at all, considering that if the injured party departed dissatisfied, one would absolutely have to fear very detrimental consequences, both by the blocking of the roads for descending merchants and otherwise; but that His Honor on the other hand could also not fail to take into serious consideration the likelihood that, in such a case, the debt incurred by the said Radja on Pulo Chinko to the amount of 196 Thails of Hoofd-stoff, [illegible], and ditto Cura, might not easily be recovered, and whether it would therefore not be better that the said Radja be first placed under civil arrest inside the fort, his goods seized, and eight Ponghoulous appointed in order provisionally to govern Troesang together, and to take the necessary care for the payment of the Radja's debt. The combined assembly having heard and fully approved the opinion of the Honorable Commander, the Tiga-blas Cottas were once again called inside, and they were informed of the decision taken, with the assurance that they, after the settlement of the Radja's debt, would obtain the desired satisfaction.

English small ship the Bombay's Merchant commanded by Captain Ritte, arriving from Colombo, in order, after taking in some water and firewood, to continue its voyage to Batavia. This having thus been noted, a letter received from the Resident Challier at Adjerhadja was summarized, wherein he gave to know that the presentation of the elected Emperor of Indrapoera Sultan Iskander was solemnly accomplished on the 22nd of December, and he was recognized and accepted there in that dignity; whereof it was deemed proper to give the due notice to Their High Excellencies by outgoing letter. Furthermore, it having been shown by the said Resident through a submitted declaration under offer of oath that one of His Honorable Company's bondservants had died there, with the request to be allowed to write off the same in his books, it was resolved to grant him the necessary qualification thereto. While furthermore it was decided to approve their submitted demand for Anno 1765/6 just as it lies, and to let it depart to Their High Excellencies per the ship Westfriesland. The servants at the office of Poelo Chinco having made known by a received note that the vessel the Jonge Petrus Albertus had departed from there on the 10th of this month with 15 mark 8 ounces 41/36 angel of fine gold via Adjerhadja for Batavia, it was deemed proper to keep a record thereof in these minutes. The sloop De Haazewind having returned here to this roadstead the day before yesterday from Adjerhadja, and having brought along with it 38 packs of linens, which could not well be stored there due to the poor condition of the warehouses, together with 15975 lb. of pepper, which the small vessel De Jonge Petrus Albertus had not been able to take along; and furthermore news that 50: 21 5/8 mas of gold had been sent with said vessel to Batavia; it was initially resolved to have the abovementioned packs stored in the trade warehouses, to send the pepper to Batavia with the ship West-friesland, and to discharge the Adjerhadja factory for the one and the other in the trade books, as well as to validate the expenses incurred on the abovementioned sloop during its stay there for the President at his request. Furthermore, a requisition sent over by the Resident of Adjerhadja for cash, provisions, and other necessities was resumed, and it was resolved thereupon to satisfy the same insofar as can conveniently be done. From the findings sent over concerning the cargo delivered there by the aforementioned sloop, it having appeared that there was found short 72 lb. of iron, 16 pieces of lenses that remained in the vessel De Jonge Petrus Albertus, and 1/2 barrel of pitch that according to declaration was lost by the overturning of an unloading craft, it was thought fit in that regard to have the 72 lb. of iron paid into the Honourable Company's treasury at retail price by the Second Mate Job Dussenton; to charge the 16 pieces of lenses to Batavia, in order to be compensated by the Skipper Is. And as these goods, according to that price, could yield no more than an advance of 15 to 16 percent, it was deemed best to permit them to send the same back with the aforementioned vessel, and to requisition others in place thereof. Of the other linens, a Price-Current having been drawn up by them and sent hither, for the approval of which they requested, and it having appeared therefrom that the stated prices were reasonably well matched, it was thereupon approved to authorize the servants to proceed with the sale of those goods in such a manner. Further, the requests of the following persons having been brought forward by the servants, namely: of Corporal Philip Iacob Schoe, to be discharged to Batavia on account of the expiration of his contract; of the soldier Ian Godlieb Pijffer, to be allowed to step into his place; and of the gunner Cornelis Thiebout, on account of the expiration of his contract, to be raised in wages; it was thereupon agreed to grant both requests, and thus Corporal Philip Iacob Schoe is discharged to Batavia, the soldier Ian Godlieb Pijffer is promoted to Corporal with the wages of f 14.- per month, and the gunner Cornelis Thiebout is granted in his present capacity the wages of f 14.- per month, under a new contract of 3 years beginning today. 36/.
