Friday the 19th of April 1771 the river gate and remain posted there until the arrival of His Highness, upon whose arrival military honors shall be paid and saluted with spontoon and banner, under the beating of the grenadiers march; thereupon His Highness, alongside the aforementioned Honorable members of police with the head interpreter van Tongeren, shall enter by carriage, while the aforementioned detachment, continuing the grenadiers march, marching ahead, the 12 lascars shall follow, together with the retinue of His Highness, and thus His Highness shall make his entry through the city to the Commandement along the Heere Straat, past the Artillery across the parade ground, where His Highness shall be received at the foot of the stairs by the Honorables van Harn and Saffin, and conducted up to the stoop, received there by the Governor, having with him the other Honorable members of the Council, furthermore 407 April 1771 Friday the 19th furthermore be escorted to the Conference Hall, and obtain audience, in the presence of all the Honorable members of this government, while upon taking seats three volleys from small arms shall be fired by the battalion, each time accompanied by a cannon shot, and furthermore 17 cannon shots shall be discharged from the city walls, all of which honors shall also take place upon the departure of His Highness, except that when the King pushes off from the shore with the orang-bai, then not the entire battalion but only the detachment of soldiers that conducted His Highness to the beach shall fire three volleys, each accompanied by a cannon shot and followed by another 17 cannon shots from the ramparts. Monday the 29th of April 1771 Promotion of Corporal Bossamier to sergeant at 20 florins. Resumption of three reports from the Curator ad lites and secretaries of Justice and the Orphan Chamber. 76887 lb of Pepper, 40 lasts of Paddy, and 14772 lb of unserviceable Gunpowder, as well as that this occasion was used to send along, under covering letters, the duplicate of our General rescript to Their Excellencies the High Indies Government dated 31 March past. The Lord Commander also had it recorded in this Resolution that on the 4th of this month he granted a sergeant's warrant, at 20 florins per month under a five-year contract, to Corporal Harmanus Bosjanier of Bekkelinghausen in place of Sergeant Jan Joost of Schitmereaspel who died recently, with which appointment the members concurred. Whereupon were resumed three Reports showing that the Curator ad lites and the secretaries, both of 413 Monday the 29th of April 1771 Insertion of the reports Justice and of the Orphan Chamber, have rendered account, proof, and balance according to the order for the monies administered by them during the period of six months; thus it was agreed to insert these Papers herewith according to custom. Whereupon, since the first of September of the said year until the last of February last past, there was successively received on account of the Lord's dues Monday the 29th of April 1771 from sold houses and premises, a sum of One Hundred and eighteen Rupees. 419 Monday the 29th April 1771 along with 664 pieces of felloes to be sold by public auction insertion of the report in the presence of the fiscal, have seen destroyed the unserviceable carriages and wheels, item truck carriages, cannon trestles, and further other artillery goods, which are to be found in the ammunition house and have there been brought and placed successively both from the subordinate offices and from the city ramparts; thus it was resolved to turn the old iron and wood resulting therefrom into money by public auction at the earliest opportunity, together with 664 pieces of felloes, which were also found unserviceable in the ammunition house, the aforesaid Report and ordinance reading as follows. — To The Right Honorable Worshipful Mister Adriaan Moens Commander and supreme authority of the Coast of Mallabaar, Canara and Wingurla. To obtain them from Tutucorijn, or other places situated to the north of Insegoere, is impossible at this time of year, and the cape does not possess such vessels; and if one wished to await the change of the monsoon, it would in all likelihood be too late, at least for most of the goods, which in the meantime would rot or spoil. All help under these circumstances must therefore come from Your Honorable Worships, and I take the liberty humbly to request it herewith, as I find myself on the spot, and thus know from close up the circumstances and our embarrassment, as well as the remedies against it. Thus I hope to escape the reproach of presumption, although I presume herewith to indicate further what would be required to cause Your Honorable Worships' proof of assistance to have the desired effect. 497 Saturday the 20th of July 1771 The sloop will serve as a warehouse and the two tonies for unloading. A well-ballasted sloop is necessary to serve as a warehouse for the goods being salvaged; for they cannot be stored on shore, both on account of the unfavorable winds and currents and on account of the inaccessibility of the beach, which is everywhere studded with rocks. Two good and heavy tonies, or other suitable lighters, are necessary for unloading the wreck and loading the sloop. Because the masts of the wreck have been cut down, and one can therefore nowhere attach tackles: the sloop needs to bring along two sheer-legs or the timber for them; for in the wreck no spars are to be found for erecting sheer-legs, everything having been used for rafts for the fleeing crew. But as he, having appeared in the meeting, declared that it was utterly impossible to bring an empty chaloup or smalschip, let alone a well-ballasted one, over the bank without being smashed to pieces in an instant, it was therefore also unanimously judged that there was no possibility from here to comply partially, much less entirely, with the request of the said chief. But nevertheless, to leave nothing untried as to whether any help might be found in this distressing case for the salvage of goods, it is at the same time resolved to instruct the Coilan servants, while sending 503 Saturday the 20th of July 1771 Decision to recommend to the Coilan servants the care of dispatching almadies or loose vessels thither.
