When issuing provisions and other goods for use, care must be taken that the oldest supplies are always issued first, and the stock must therefore continually be kept balanced from the newly arrived goods. Of the goods that become unfit each year, it must be indicated for each piece when it was taken into use. Of all repairable goods, the defects of each of them must be indicated in the Reports, in particular of the ammunition goods and the weapons, which latter must be examined piece by piece every year by two non-commissioned officers in the presence of the ensign, of which explicit mention shall be made in the report of the survey. To prevent the frequent unfitness and unserviceability of the weapon goods in the garrison, the Commander is hereby recommended to pay close attention to this, and to see to it that the military personnel always keep their weapons clean and in good order, since they otherwise become unfit or unserviceable more through neglect than through use; and at least every month 643. Wednesday the 16th of December Anno 1772. once, all weapon goods in use must be exactly inspected by two non-commissioned officers. The carriages must be tarred annually and the cannons smeared with oil, and an explicit report of its completion must be sent hither every year dated the last of August. Under the wheels and trails of the gun carriages, pieces of planks or, lacking those, stones must be placed, to prevent them from rotting due to the moisture of the ground. The wheels of the carriages must be turned one or two spokes at least every month so that the same side of the wheel does not always remain resting on the ground. The weapons, both in stock and to be exchanged for the unfit ones, must be cleaned from time to time, and the muskets, bayonets, cutlasses, and swords smeared with oil. Of the weapons in stock, nothing may be taken into use in ordinary times without special authorization, or at least not without immediately giving notice thereof. Such ammunition goods of which, because they are very rarely used, nothing has been given into use, shall, when they are needed, be taken from the ammunition house for that time, and immediately returned thereto as soon as they have been used. In arranging the ammunition goods, the cannonballs and bar-shot must be gauged anew and care must be taken that the calibers that differ little from each other, like the four- and three-pounders, are not placed next to each other. Also, the cannons must be distributed on the ramparts in such a way that no four- and three-pounders come to stand next to each other in order not to make a mistake in loading. The gun carriages must be tarred annually and the cannons coated with oil, and an express report of the completion thereof must be sent hither every year by the ultimate of August. There was delivered here an ola from Paijencherij Naijro addressed to His Honourable Worship, containing a certain dispute between Bagiel Naijro and a certain Chego residing there. Translation of the ola written by Paijencherij Naijro to the Honourable Worshipful Lord Commander Adriaan Moens, received the 4th of October Anno 1771. The boundary stone has been placed north of the boundary demarcations of the grove Eddamotton, so that four villages on the east side have thereby been drawn southwards to that side. The tithes of those villages, and those of Careambattam on the west side, used to be brought to Chettua and accounted for; but now the renters of Paponettij have had the village of Careambattam placed under arrest, claiming that its tithes should be brought to Paponettij. The renters of Chettua lifted the arrests and accounted for the tithes at Chettua, for which reason the Resident of Paponettij had the renters Casdakel Caijmaal and Joddagie Palepettij fetched, and forced them to pay a fine for lifting the arrest, and subsequently ordered the tithes to be paid at Paponettij, for which purpose he still holds them under arrest in the barracks. The 6th of the same month, Wednesday, before noon, His Right Honourable received an ola from the Caimal of Angecaimal, concerning a dispute between him and the Christian Niconacherij Chandij over a piece of leased land that his ancestors had allegedly granted in fief to a certain Nayar, to be read more fully in the following translation below: Translation of an ola written by the Caimal of Angecaimal to the Right Honourable Lord Commander Adriaan Moens, received the 6th of November, Year 1771: In ancient times our ancestor granted a piece of land on lease to a certain Nayar and received some money for it. The Christian Niconacherij Chandij, ensign, took over that land on lease and worked it, but my cousin Maddapattij requested that we might have that land for his maintenance. I had Chandij summoned and told him that he should renounce that land, but he paid little heed to it; therefore, I had that land seized. Thereupon, he took refuge with the Paliat Achan. Hearing that, I also went to the Paliat Achan and made the matter known to the Paliat Achan, who, being informed thereof, judged that Chandij must renounce that land and receive his advanced money. Thereupon Chandij said that when the year was over, he would renounce the land. The Paliat Achan then addressed him, stating that when the owner claimed his land, the tenant could raise no objection.
