278 133 The 25th of June Anno 1776 and three-strand warp hawsers provided for the service of the Company's vessels; next, in the presence of the said Equipage Overseer and a native carpenter, they investigated to the best of their knowledge the manner of getting that vessel afloat and into the water again, to which end one will first have to relieve it of all its unnecessary weight, clear away the wooden revetment along the length of the said narrow ship, and excavate the ground from under the vessel in a sloping manner down to the wide ground upon which the revetment stands, and place upon the said slope such timbers as are required to shore up the said vessel and to make it slide down; likewise, two heavy beams must be laid athwart the vessel, beneath which such weight is hung as is required to maintain the balance, in order to prevent the vessel from capsizing on the outer side; and then two anchors must be carried out into the river, one aft and the other forward, cathead-fashion or four points further aft and further forward than abeam, into which two cable-ropes are inserted, which on the narrow ship must run through foot-blocks, one forward and the other aft, upon which tackles are then fitted, and thus haul the narrow ship upon the constructed slipway toward the water, and also two check-ropes on the landward side with which one must keep the vessel straight and stop it. The 25th of June Anno 1776 decided to act as regarding that of the small vessel, likewise to have the broken piles of the new pier replaced, and this solely to have the defects in the piling, as mentioned in the text, remedied. 172 The 4th of November Anno 1776 Report concerning the gauging of the weights, and the examination of the scales, from which this appeared. Resolution thereupon. below stood: Souratta the last of August Anno 1776; was signed: for the accounting, Abram Johannes Sluikken; in the middle signed: In my presence, Jacobus van der Sleijden; in the margin: As commissioners; signed: Willem Lambert Sontag and Willem Smit. From the report submitted and recorded here below of the ordinary annual gauging and confronting of the weights held by the respective administrators, as well as the examination of the scales, it has appeared that of the 50-pounders held by the Warehouse Master, 11 pieces, and of those held by the Purveyor, 6 pieces were found to be too light; that in place of the first 11 pieces others were issued from stock, but that no others could be supplied to the Purveyor, as there were none in stock. Thus it was resolved to send the aforementioned 17 pieces of 50-pound weights to the Capital by this shipping opportunity; to have the missing provision made from those now received, and to request those still needed according to the Regulations in 396 173 The 4th of November Anno 1776 the requisition to be dispatched to Batavia.
