The increase thereof could not yet be encouraged by the humble signees until further highly respected orders from Your Right Excellencies; nevertheless, an earlier dispatch has continually and earnestly been urged upon the King. To our particular regret, news has arrived here that the tin vessels that had already departed on 31 March and 6 April of this year were overtaken by a severe storm and forced to put in again at Luciparo to repair themselves. The King thereupon sent assistance as quickly as possible, with orders to continue their journey directly. Upon the arrival of the private sloop De Vrijheid, having had the fortune of being honored with Your Right Honours' highly esteemed general, secret, and separate dispatches dated the 16th of May, we find ourselves obliged to give Your Right Honours submissive notice thereof, with the humble reservation of our respectful reply to the same, which will be most submissively presented to Your Right Honours at the first opportunity. While we also, in humble observation of Your Right Honours' highly respected orders of the 14th of March, which we had the good fortune to receive on the 15th of April last, have allowed the bearer of the same, the native lieutenant Abdul Rahim, to proceed on his journey immediately on the 18th following, by exchanging his small vessel for a prahu penjajap; however, nothing more has been heard of it here until now. We have also taken the liberty, upon reports received that the packet boat belonging to the Shabandar of Papendrecht there, which had returned from the capital to Malacca and run aground near Pulau Varela, had been brought up to Jambi, to dispatch the pantjalling De Snoek thither on the 25th of the past month of April with a letter to the king of that realm, according to the copy most respectfully accompanying this, and charged the Company's interpreter here with the delivery of the same, in order to give greater urgency to our requisition from that monarch.
