After resumption of a report by Judicial Members Jan Hendrik Vogt and Johannes Wolff, who have examined the accounts of the monies under the Secretary of Justice Arnoldus Lunel, 77 # 205 Saturday the 2nd of April 1785. Lunel, and found that as of the ultimate of February last, all monies held under him, the secretary, have been properly accounted for in the Company's treasury, it was approved and agreed to insert that report hereunder: Insertion of the report. Report made and submitted to the Right Noble, Highly Respected Lord Johan Gerard van Angelbeek, Extraordinary Councillor of the Dutch Indies and Supreme Commander on the Malabar Coast, by the undersigned Judicial Members, containing the account, vouchers, and balances of the administration of their secretary Arnoldus Lunel. Right Noble, Highly Respected, High Commanding Lord. In Saturday the 2nd of April 1785. In humble compliance with the highly venerated order of Their High Excellencies contained in the Extract Resolution of the proceedings and resolutions in the Council of the Indies under date of 23 July 1736, the undersigned having been appointed as commissioners to see the account, vouchers, and balances of his administration rendered by the above-mentioned secretary, have, after examination taken, found that as of the ultimate of August past, no cash remained held under the said secretary. After which, from the 1st of September following to the ultimate of February, four hundred seventy-two and one-quarter rupees were successively received on account of the Lord's duty on sold houses and premises; he furthermore showed us a receipt from the Honorable Cashier Mr. Nikolaas Wendelen Beijts dated the ultimate of February just mentioned, showing that 79: 206 Resolution to pay out of the treasury for 5555 lb of saltpetre delivered in excess from the Dispensary, and to write off the remainder less. Saturday the 2nd of April 1785. the aforementioned 472 and 1/4 rupees have been properly paid into the Company's petty cash treasury, so that the receipts from the 1st of September to the ultimate of February last agree with the expenditures, and as of the ultimate of February last, no cash remains under him. Wherewith we hope to have complied with the above-mentioned highly venerated order and remain with respect, below stood: Right Noble, Highly Respected, High Commanding Lord, Your Right Noble, Highly Respected humble and obedient Servants, was signed: J: H: Vogt and Johannes Wolff, in the margin: Cochin the 14th of March 1785. Having been submitted by the Junior Merchant Jan Lambertus van Spall, who in the absence of the Junior Merchant Abraham Jean Scipion Vernede had supervised the Company's Dispensary, a memorandum of write-off for what was dispensed therefrom during the Saturday the 2nd of April 1785. the month of September 1784, it was, after resumption thereof, approved and agreed to pay and satisfy from the Company's treasury, at cost price to the heirs of the said Vernede, the 5555 lb of saltpetre that was delivered over and above the permitted write-off, and to write off the deficit on the remaining articles as being according to the Regulations, as well as to insert the memorandum here. Which he requests may be paid from the Company's treasury. 1723 1/2 lb of Rice on an issued amount of 57449 lb gives 3 per cent. ƒ 41.- 16/20 Parrahs of Paddy, item on 548 Parrahs for the Year gives 3 per cent. 1/4. 6 1/2 cans of Arrack Api on 90 cans calculated at 28 cans per leaguer. 3/4. 20 1/2 lb of salt on 570 lb gives 5 per cent. 5. Some of the first have cracked due to the passage of time and are already beginning to fog, which must be attributed to the thinness of the glass, and the latter, or the goblets, are of no use. Both are therefore goods that run the risk of breaking through prolonged storage and from which one can expect loss rather than profit for the Honorable Company. For all these reasons 83. 208 Surety in favor of the Purveyor van Haeften executed. Extract Extract Resolution taken in the Council of Malabar at the city of Cochin. Wednesday the 16th of February 1785. Was read and reviewed a written report, annex a statement of the General Charges, submitted by two members of this assembly, the merchant and fiscal Mr. Nicolaas Wendelin Beijts and the junior merchant Coenraad George Seijffer, who pursuant to the resolution of the 3rd of December last reviewed the trade books of 1783/4, as well as a report from the Honorable Head Administrator Reinier van Harn regarding the debtors and outstanding accounts running continuously in the said books, and whereas it appears from the first-mentioned report that the books are kept well and according to order and were found without errors, it has been approved and agreed to qualify the bookkeeper to proceed with the closing thereof and to insert the report along with that of the Honorable Head Administrator herein, and to place on the latter such disposition as is annotated in the margin thereof for each item. To the Right Honorable Sir Johan Gerard van Angelbeek Extraordinary Councilor of the Dutch East Indies, as well as Governor and Director of this Coast with the jurisdiction thereof. Right Honorable, High and Mighty Sir, The undersigned hereby has the honor to serve Your Right Honorable with a report and to show the debtors and outstanding accounts, as well as the creditors and credit accounts as they existed at the closing of the trade books of this Government for the year 1784, to wit: The Debtors The King of Travancore, ƒ12196: 6:—. Concerning what His Highness is in arrears regarding the delivery of pepper, and is to be settled with the closing of the pepper account. Regarding these two items, one conforms to what was noted by the Head Administrator. Lease moneys from leased gardens and lands, ƒ15724: 4:—. This amount was advanced to him toward the liquidation of his submitted account for expenses incurred on his journey from the Netherlands overland to this place, pursuant to the resolution of the 2nd of July 1782; this having been advanced toward the settlement of his submitted account, the honored dispositions from the Honorable High and Mighty Lords Majors from Europe are still awaited. The Nabob Hyder Ali Khan, ƒ2948: 9: —. Being the cost of 1 piece metal mortar of 7 inches and 2 pieces iron cannon of 18 lbs with their carriages, wheels, and accessories, which were supplied to his commander Sardar Khan; this account is to be settled as opportunity arises. Account of Secret Expenses, ƒ24000: —: —. This amount was issued from the Honorable Company's main treasury to the Right Honorable Sir Johan Gerard van Angelbeek, Extraordinary Councilor of the Dutch East Indies and Governor and Director of this Coast, in order to render account to Their High Excellencies, the Honorable High Indian Government at Batavia. The Governor requests to be permitted to render account of this item to Your High Excellencies upon his arrival at Batavia, and that for that purpose the same may be charged upon his departure.
