That after discharging his vessel at the aforementioned capital, he, the declarant, having resolved to turn the prow hither therewith, there came to him a certain Arab, Sech Salee residing here, with a request that he might load half of the declarant's vessel with the following goods, namely 29 Coyangs 12 picols and 30 catties of rice, the Coyang of 27 picols, 100 picols of Japanese bar copper, 10 picols of raisins, and also according to the Arab's statement diverse linens to the value of 3000 rixdollars Bollus, under the condition of paying him for this upon arrival at Palembang, 8 Spanish reals per Coyang of Rice of 3375 lb, 2 percent on the diverse linens, 1/2 rupee per picol of Japanese bar copper, and 1/2 rupee for the picol of raisins, which the declarant had granted him. That the said Arab subsequently with another Arab also residing here, Sait Alie Minsech, had addressed himself to the king, and had declared that he had bought half of the vessel from him, the declarant, at the capital, with presentation of one proof written in the Arabic and one in the Javanese language. That the king to conduct the necessary investigation had appointed thereto the aforementioned Arab Zait Alie Minsech, and the Shahbandar of the Javanese here, Kledemang Caijandria. That to him, the declarant, it was said by these two persons that Sech Salee had claimed that half of the vessel along with the entire cargo belonged to him in ownership. That he, the declarant, thereupon had replied that this was not true, but that the vessel belonged to him in ownership as could be further verified at the factory of Rembang, and that Sech Salee had hired half of it at Batavia under the condition as stated hereinbefore, as well as that Sech Salee had already received the goods laden therein here. That Said Alie Minsech and Kledemang Jaijandria thereupon in the name of the king had notified him that he, the declarant, would have to hand over the vessel to the aforementioned Sech Salee, since Sech Salee had sworn that half of the vessel belonged to him. That the declarant had replied, even if the King has given those orders, I am nevertheless not obliged to give the vessel that belongs to me, as well as half of the rice, to Sech Salee, unless such were taken from me with violence. That he, the declarant, having found the opportunity, had come from there into this lodge, and had given notice of one thing and another to the Honorable Chief, requesting the protection of the Honorable Company, which was directly granted to him, the declarant. That after the lapse of a few days the said Chief had the Shahbandar Kledemang Jaijandria come to him, and after examining these disputes advised the Kledemang not to handle this matter further in such an unjust manner; That if Sech Salee had bought the vessel, he should produce legal proof thereof, while Juragan Sarieba, in whose name, according to the proper pass, the vessel was registered, was for now the legal owner thereof. That he, the declarant, was thereupon ordered by the Honorable Chief, in presence of the Shahbandar, to betake himself quietly to his vessel and to continue his trade and business unhindered. That further the said Chief had forbidden the said Kledemang Jaijandria to detain him, the declarant, any longer, but to let him go free, in order to avoid all adverse consequences. Just as we on that occasion also earnestly sought to convince His Highness of the unreasonable ideas his ministers held regarding the private traders, who stand directly under the Company, and with what injustice those people were treated if they sought justice from us regarding the extortions committed against them, and that therefore Your Right Noblenesses would never allow their rights stipulated by the contracts to be violated. We have the honour to communicate most respectfully to Your Excellencies that, under the convoy of the King's envoys, five vessels commanded by the juragans: Kheagus Batoe, per bark laden with 200 piculs of pepper, 1,335 piculs of tin; Morsielo, ditto, laden with 1,000 piculs of tin; Rasiep, ditto chaloup, laden with 1,100 piculs of tin; Besien, ditto, laden with 1,700 piculs of tin; Baman, ditto, laden with 125 piculs of pepper, 1,000 piculs of tin; 5 vessels together laden with 325 piculs of pepper, 6,135 piculs of tin; are steering for the capital Batavia. Furthermore, we silent here step forth, so we again station the aforementioned pantjalling here for cruising. Requisition for such cash as will still be needed for the administration, for whose complete fulfillment the undersigned Residents respectfully petition to His Honour the Right Honourable Lord Willem Arnold Alting, Governor-General, along with the Honourable Councillors of the Dutch Indies, namely: 10,000 pieces, say Ten thousand pieces of round Spanish reals of eight; 2 pieces of cable ropes of 9 inches, since the cable ropes of 7, 8, and 9 inches already requested are insufficient for the cruising vessels currently present here, because the hawser cables located thereon have for the most part decayed and become unserviceable due to the brackish water. However, due to the persistent indisposition of the first envoy and the tardiness of the Palembang Court, that small division is still lying at the Sungsang, notwithstanding that we have urged the Sultan with the most earnest representations for their speedy dispatch. Thus, those vessels are only now departing from here, having been augmented with the King's small ship commanded by Juragan Dato and laden with 400 piculs of pepper and 3,000 piculs of tin, as well as the sloop of Juragan Rahim carrying 300 piculs of pepper and 800 piculs of tin.
