It was approved to cede the said copper for 56½ rupees the 100 lb net money to the Company merchant Laaldas Herridas, in order to make the usual, or at least a partial, advance payment to the same suppliers, for which one would otherwise again have to seek funds here and there under payment not only of interest but even sometimes of higher batta or discount, if they are to be obtained at all. Since there is now at least no further hope left of selling any cloves, as, just as was recorded in the Resolution of the 18th of last month, such a considerable quantity has again been brought from Cochin to Bombay and even sold there for 525 rupees the sack, making 2 9/48 rupees the 943 pound, it was therefore approved and resolved to cede the said copper for the price offered for it of 56½ rupees the 100 lb net money and without any deduction to the Company merchant Laaldas 213: The 12th July 1787. The contracting, delivery & acceptance of all aforesaid linens, cloths & cotton yarns shall take place according to the usual samples, as far as the outward appearance is concerned, but regarding the length, breadth & threads of the cloths, one shall regulate oneself in that respect according to the specification made in the demands, so that even if the samples should not contain the stipulated length, breadth & threads, nevertheless nothing must be lacking in those respects in the delivered cloths, not counting ¼ or ½ thread or 1 or 2 tesso. 3. For the delivery of all the contracted goods mentioned under Article 1, the suppliers shall be paid the same prices as were agreed for them at the last contracting on the 18th May 1786. 4. The members of this meeting Van Eijk & Roeff, having by order of the Lord Director visited and examined the large water tank or rather cistern under the house of the Equipage Master, which, according to the resolution of the 9th of May 1785, was contracted out to the then Equipage Master Johan Lotz for renewal and masonry repair, under the express condition that the said Equipage Master would vouch and be answerable for all defects that might occur or be found necessary therein during the next five years, have submitted the following report of their findings. The undersigned Special Commissioners, having gone to the house of the Equipage Master on Your Right Honour's verbal order to examine the Honourable Company's water tank beneath it, which was recently in the year 1785 repaired and made serviceable by the Equipage Master Ian Lotsz, have the honour to report to Your Right Honour, That on the 2nd of this month we found 12 feet and 4 1/2 inches of water in it, whereas at a second sounding on the 10th of this month we found no more than 10 feet and 11 1/2 inches, which decrease of 1 foot and 5 inches in the span of 8 days cannot be attributed to anything other than a leak, as the tank was kept properly closed by us during that time. Wherewith we have the honour to remain with all respect. underneath was written: Right Honourable Lord; lower: Your Right Honour's obedient and humble servants; was signed: Cornelis Adrianus van Eijk & G. 251. The 19th of September Ao 1784. The secretary gives notice that the Warehouse Master Wiardi has not yet provided a surety for his administration. Is ordered to do so as soon as possible. Demanded the private present, had present service, to let remain with the Company according to Their Right Honorables' order on the matter of the Sureties of the 10th of December 1765, and to that end return his received pay accounts, it is approved and understood to order the pay bookkeeper to receive the pay accounts and to re-enter them in the books of this year. On this occasion, notice having been given by the Secretary that the Warehouse Master Wiardi has also not yet provided any sureties for his administration, it is approved and understood to order him by Extract hereof to do so at once, with an order to the pay bookkeeper Meijer to also withhold the pay accounts of the aforesaid Wiardi until he shall have provided sureties. The city governor has of the Heer Wiardi after the Heer Director had noted how the city Governor a few days ago was again able to see fit, in order 252. The 19 September 1787. II That on the other hand on the two packages of Mace brought by the ship Spaarenrijk indeed 97¼ lb or 3 per Cent roughly in overweight has been found. And to have the aforementioned overweight on the Mace brought by Sparenrijk amounting to 97¼ lb credited to the aforesaid Profit Account against it. — III.
