In Kolombo A. The inner church is served in Dutch by the ministers J. J. Sijbrands, W. R. G. Hauwertz, and the proponent C. Camp. The Reverend Mr. Meijer was called here by the Government of Ceilon on the 24th of April of this year in place of Daniel Hofman, who departed for Batavia at his own request due to personal affairs; however, on account of his sickly condition, he has not yet been able to assume the ministry. This congregation, as well as those at Kalpettij, Tuticorin, Kaliture, Nigombo, and Chilauw, which are also under the supervision of the aforementioned ministers, are in sweet rest and peace, and yield a total of 2057 members. The minor church and school duties in Dutch are properly attended to by the persons appointed for that purpose, and everyone is zealous in their service. B. The outer church is served a. In Sinhalese by the minister H. Philipsz and the proponents B. Giffening and C. Philipsz. b. In Malabar or Tamil and in Portuguese by the two proponents Ondaatjen. C. The native churches and schools belonging to the entire district of Kolombo were visited this year by the ministers Philipsz, Hauwertz, and Meijer, each in his own district. 527 The instruction of the school-attending youth was found to be reasonably good in most schools, and the native Christianity to consist of 94,082 souls, among whom 2222 are members, to whom the holy covenant seal of the Lord's Supper was also administered during the visitation of those churches and schools. D. In Jaffanapatnam the Word of God is proclaimed in Dutch and Tamil by the minister W. J. Ondaatje, and in Dutch by the minister C. F. Schröter. The retired minister C. De Melho has advanced with the translation up to the second book of Samuel. E. In Gale, the minister F. J. Capelle and the proponent Engelbrecht labour in the Lord's vineyard.
