Finally, there also having been submitted the Memorandum of Debtors and Creditors drawn from the aforementioned books, which expired at the end of August last; it was approved and resolved to enter the said writing herein, and to dispose thereupon as set down in the margin of the same, to be sent together with and alongside the aforementioned trade books at the first upcoming opportunity, as the multitude of other writing work currently prevents the copying of both. It having appeared that gamboge had been included therein, the said papers are not sent, conforming to the Director, 30th March of this year, for the present to wait with complying until the receipt of further orders from Their High Mightinesses, to order to deposit the aforesaid sum of rop:s 415:14:8 here in the treasury. Subsequently, the Director gave to know that upon examination of an extract from the requisition dated the 1st of November 1789, appended to the Indian requisition dated the 16th August of this year, it appears and is demanded 8 to 1000 lb gummi guttae, which were not found in the duplicates sent from the Netherlands, which had caused some doubt in his Honour whether a copyist's error might have crept into the aforesaid extract, in which his Honour was all the more strengthened, as this gum has for 50 years past been very seldom requested, and even then only in very small quantities; and that his Honour, upon inquiry into the prices, had found that the contractor of this place cannot at present well deliver the same for less than one and a half rupee or 36 stuijvers per pound, whereas the said gummi guttae was sold by the Company in the Netherlands in 1786 for 44 and 36 stuijvers, and in 1787, the price current of that year being the last wherein it is found, for 31 stuijvers per pound, so that on this article, according to the earlier low price, the Company would make little profit and, according to the latest market, would suffer a loss; wherefore he had deemed it necessary to propose to the meeting to wait with the satisfaction and dispatch to the Netherlands of this gummi guttae until further orders from Their High Mightinesses regarding this shall have been received. That all entries of charges and expenses, as well as write-ins and write-offs, were found to be lawful and in agreement with the successive decisions taken in the Council of Policy, as well as the successive warrants granted by your Right Honorable. 2. That the charges of that financial year, or in the twelve months calculated from and including the first of September 1789 up to and including the last of August 1790, have amounted in total to ƒ 58417:3:8, which have been written off under administrations according to the order, each to its own account. And regarding the observance of the so highly recommended economy, we respectfully take the liberty to refer to a statement of accounts drawn up from the cited trade books by the aforementioned Honorable Trade Bookkeeper, and the reasons for increases and decreases mentioned therein.
