The decrease of the borne bark freights under Charges on Merchandise to fl: 2496:1:23 originates from the fact that in the most recently concluded financial year only one ship was discharged and two were laden, namely Straalen and Het Spaarne, besides the bark De Voorzichtigheid and the packet boat De Expeditie, both of which discharged and loaded on the other side of the river; whereas in the previous year three ships had to be discharged, namely De Resolutie, Eik en Linden, and Straalen, of which the first two were dispatched laden to Batavia and the last remained behind here. The Ordinary Charges also run less by fo: 159:—:24, because in this year no vessels were employed to the debit of this account; as also those of sloops and smaller craft, which yield a difference in favor of fr: 216:7:9, originating from a lower hire of vessels in service of these small craft. Remark in this regard is that, however bitterly painful this disadvantageous description is for the assembly, which is felt all the more strongly as for consecutive years one had the good fortune and thus, so to speak, became accustomed to presenting to the High Authorities a profitable showing of the profits obtained through the sale of merchandise, which undoubtedly must also appear most unpleasant to them, it is nevertheless in the hope that the Noble High Indian Government, out of favorable consideration of the reasons that are the cause hereof and entirely without the fault of this Council, will be pleased to honor the same with approval, resolved and understood to pass the said general memorandum, so far as this administration is concerned, subject to the further respected approval of Their High Selves. Memorandum concerning the charges for clothing and consumed wages debited to the ship's pay accounts, likewise to be charged to the accounts of the beneficiaries. The clothing store: 94:37:8 rixdollars, converted at 71 1/28 stuivers, or f 191:19:—, this being the amount of provisions supplied by the shopkeeper to the crew members of this vessel on account of accrued monthly wages, as shown by the accompanying expense account of the Pay Office, for which each person, for his share, must be charged according to regulations at the place where their continuous accounts run in the books. . . . . . . f 187:6:8. R. de Bas, in the following manner: Total - f 281:8:8. 4,736 pounds of nutmegs and cloves mixed together in 40 well-conditioned chests, according to the letter of advice, and here, following a special report of the said judicial members, weighed net 4,521½ lb, thus short 214½ lb or 4 7/25 percent, consisting according to the invoice of: 3,536 lb nutmegs, but here according to another report weighed 3,320½ lb before garbling, and after the same: Good deliverable: 80 2/25 percent, or . . - - lb 2,860:—:—.
