That the men of the garrison together with the aforementioned Bekker, under the pretext that they were being shortchanged in their rations with false weights, sought to expel him, Constants, from the authority of Aru, to which end the Surgeon Bekker had managed to win over the orangkaya of Wokam, Nicolaas Harmansz, to his, or rather van Eijk's, interests. Being some packets of letters and papers from the Governor and Council at Amboina, there was received therein: The letters found therein and an original letter to the Commander and Council dated 5 November last, accompanied by the invoice of the recovery amounting to ƒ 35: 4:—: and upon our request made, a copy of the Articles of War with the Ampliation on the promotion of the servants, alongside the copy of the spring and autumn dispatches sent from there to Their Right Nobilities. A letter from and to the same as above, dated 30 November 1792, accompanied by a packet of pay papers, and an invoice of charges for the capture, confinement, and board of two runaway slaves seized there belonging to the burgher van Steenbergen and the native schoolmaster Jordan Latoemeeten, among which a bill of exchange amounting to ƒ 50: 19: 8, as well as a bill of exchange with the proper four percent agio amounting to rds 500:—:— to be paid to the children of the chief surgeon Anthonij Frans Florents, and three letters exchanged between the Honorable Governor of Amboina, Schelling, and the Commander of the vessel de Pallas, which was bound hither and put in at Culla bessie, from which were seen the manifold disasters of that vessel, both through leakage and the prevailing sickness among the crew on 22 September 1792, the friendly assistance received by the same with the necessary supplies from Ambon and Ternate, and finally that it was about to undertake the voyage hither, of which letters and papers the duplicates have also already been received with Lieutenant Constants, along with another duplicate letter and invoice of charges, of which the original was already received on 17 October last. Whereupon it was resolved to keep this record thereof, and to have the debit for the capture fee of the delivered slaves paid by the owners, the male slave mentioned in the invoice of the burgher van Steenbergen not having been delivered yet; also to have the rds 500:—, after deduction of the customary 4 percent amounting to rds 20:—, paid to the person entitled thereto by the bill of exchange; furthermore to deliver the invoices to the Trade Office to be debited and credited there and as is proper, and to answer those letters in due time, with friendly thanks for the kind sending of the aforementioned papers. 155 some small matters were found over. approval to discharge the collection of 5 slaves with which he has been debited. insertion of the aforesaid report. having been submitted concerning the comparison performed by him of the received reports regarding the inventory of the remaining balances in the respective administrations as of ultimate August of this year against the closed trade which was found in agreement, books of the year 1791/2, it was noticed therefrom that the respective administrations, save for some small matters on either side, agree without any prior detriment to the Honorable Company, except for the slave quarters, for which a balance stands upon the books of slaves, yet in the slave quarters 6 slaves 377 heads; and upon the inventory 383 ditto were found truly in being, thus more 6 heads, while it is now known that upon making the transfer of the government by the retired Governor Haga to the first undersigned, five slaves were short, and with which His Honor was also debited; thus it was now resolved to discharge the retired Governor Haga from the debiting of five slaves found short, for the reason that they have been discovered, and to take into service one remaining surplus slave for the benefit of the Honorable Company, and furthermore to insert that report. To the Honorable Worshipful Sir Johannes Hageman Senior Merchant and Commander of this Province Honorable Worshipful Sir! The humble undersigned, having been appointed as provisional trade transferor by your Honorable Worships by political council resolution of the 11th of this month, to compare the received reports as of ultimate August of this year regarding the inventory of the remaining balances that were in being in each administration 5th January 1793 against the recently closed trade books of 1791/2, and to investigate whether any deficiency or surplus should occur. So the undersigned has the honor to state that he has examined each administration in particular exactly, and compared the reports of ultimate August against those balances of the recently closed trade books, as the general treasury, the main administration, the petty cash, the small shop, the office Hollandia in the post of Rosingain, everything properly found in agreement as the trade dictates. Concerning the request for restitution of the rations advanced by him and wages to 26 natives. interim Fiscal and Gauger, after the standards of ells, measures, and weights were first tested in accordance with and reported separately thereon, it was seen therefrom that the same yielded rds 5: 18:—; whereupon it was agreed to keep this note thereof, and to enter that amount to the benefit of the country's revenues; from the report also received, it was seen that the fire engines were tested on the ultimate of December last, and the water hoses inspected and found in good condition; and it was agreed to keep this note thereof. By the Captain-Lieutenant of the vessel de kleine Pallas, S: Pieterssen, in a report of the 3rd of this month, it being shown how he had departed from Batavia on 16 January 1792, victualed with 9 months of rations, which already expired on 17 October 1792, thus he was in advance of 3 months of rations calculated up to the 17th of this month, for which reason he requests, according to the submitted demonstration made with that report, after deducting that which he received at Bouro for the 26 native personnel sent from there to Cullabessij by order of the Governor of Ambon for assistance.
